  1. My main reason for getting an A8xx was that the batterylife of my A3000 was really very bad. Under 10 hrs with Atrac 256 kbs, closer to 5 hrs, like an old ipod. I think the internal memory was so small that it had to acces the HD constantly.
  2. Thanks Shinji Ikeda. I was afraid of that. Chancing a genrename 300 times is not my idea of fun, so I guess I'm stuck with the old names. Oh well, no big deal, and who knows wat SS 4.4 etc. might bring...
  3. Hi, I got some genres in my Sonic Stage 4.3 ATRAC-library that I would like to rename. Problem is, either I select all tracks and rename them together, but then the old genre name is stilll attached to the album. Or I chance each album sepreately, but there are over 300 of them. So I'm looking for a way to cance the genrename, so that albums and tracks get the newe genrename. Is that possible?
  4. And memory prices are falling rapidly, I can buy 2Gb flashcards nowadays for under €15, that costed >100,- 1.5 years ago, so no doubt available DAP-memory size will double at least once a year. I make do with a 8Gb 8xx, but no doubt I'll buy a 32Gb player within 2 years, hopefully a Sony.

    Yet another A8xx victim.

@Ascariss: no, I didn't trade in the A3000. Sold it to a friend. First impressions of the 808 (vs the A3000): - much faster - hopefully better battery life (the main reason I got rid of the A3000, batterylife seemed <10 hrs on 256kbs) - smaller of course - screen readable in daylight - naturally, less memory, which I ratherm iss. The provided headphones are rather good, but I still prefer my shure E4s for isoation and sound quality. But of course the shures are far more expensive. Sound quality is clearer and more dynamic then the A3000, but at the price of a slight added brightness, where I prefer a more sonore sound. Happily the equalizer works very well. As DSP once stated, you can make it sound like you want. The other things, like DSEE (seems to add a little bit of treble on ATRAC256kbs), VSP and clearstereo (makes sound broader but spoils the little bit of spatiality the e4s offer) I found less impressive. Transfer to the player is much slower then to the A3000. Loading 7,5 Gb took almost an hour, 20 Gb on the A3000 was finished in 25 minutes. Strange.... Builtquality seems excellent, and the screen is really very good, I can even imagine people actually watching a whole movie on it, but for me it is solely a music player. The menus work fast and are instantly comprehensible without having to consult the manual, animation and so is very well done.

Thanx. No, I'm not gonna get it a case. I'll use it for audio only so I don't mind little scratches on the screen. I kept my NW-HD1 and A300 for years in my pocket and they stayed as good as new for a long long time. And in one or two years I'll probably have another new sony baby, with >16Gb capacity
  7. Just bought an A808 and I have to admit; this thing is extremely cute. But that's not gonna help him; I'll only use it for music so I don't mind little scratches on the screen, so, it's gonna life in a pocket, slone and unprotected. Bwuhahaha!
  8. Today I made the horrible mistake of asking if I could hold the A808 in a shop. Of course I cloudn't let go, took it with me, gave away my A3000 which suddenly looked bloated and am now installing my music. And this is all your fault, ATRACLIFE!
  9. Thanks DSP, very to the point, for now this anwers all my questions. The 8xx sure sounds attractive. My problem is, I got a 20 Gb library, made for my A3000. I can loose 4 gb, but not 12 gb, so I hope there will once be a 8xx 16Gb. in the meanwhile, the 8Gb version starts to look more nad more tempting...hmmm.
  10. Me too! Absolutely DSP, I liked that comparison,
  11. Right. The E4s are not especially bassheavy phones. Their strenght is the midrange. Good for pop, perfect for jazz and other acoustic stuff.
  12. I saw the white and the black ones (they are available in thre Netherlands now) and, seeing them life, I must say I prefer the black one. looks cooler, and the white one looks like it'll smudge very visibly.
  13. Yes, you can. I did that last month: connect the walkman to a new laptop with SS installed, import files, point to the walkman et voila, a perfect usuable library copy. But this probably will not work if the files are DRM-ed. OTH, the library was made in SS 2.x (when, if I understand correctly everything was DRM), upgraded everytime to 4.3 and somewhere along the way DRM was lost.

    NEW hdd dap?

I sure hope so. A Sony 16Gb (or more) player I would buy instantly, no matter the costs. I hoped they would issue a 16Gb A8xx player this spring, just a signal of strenght. It would be expensive, sure, about €400,- or so I guess, but what now happens time after time is that first Apple doubles the capacity of its flashplayers, shortly followed by Creative, Samsung and Sandisk. Then after half a year, when the new capacity is old news, there is Sony, last as always lately. And I bet its gonna happen again this year Pity, they used to be the first to issue new and high quality products, like the Walkmans and MD, and other companies struggled to follow, now it's the other way around.
  15. Well, it looks really nice in white too. But I personally wouldn't be too happy with the white headphones. People might think I listen to an ipod, and I hate the way ipods sound. OTH, I would probably use my own favorite Shure E4s on it, so I really wouldn't mind a white one instead of the black one.
  16. €300 is too much. This week I saw a brandnew A3000 in a shop for €169,-
  17. I do not know about CP, but in Sonic Stage you can press CTRL+I to get the info. Typing tags by hand seems terrible, why not switch to Soinc Stage? Version 4.3 is really decent.
  18. Hi, 1) the base is in Progam files\common files\sony shared\OpenMG I think. 2) try in sonic stage File>import 3) see 1. I do'nt know if you got your music on a DAP but if so, in Sonic stage you can import directly from your DAP, also with file>import.
  19. Well done Tom, and thanks, I was wondering about this. i'm happy to say my whole library is in ATRAC 256
  20. I love IEMs! Since a year I use Shure E4s, now with the new black foam tips. They are great! Invoving pleasant sound that I can listen to for hours without fatique. Small. And they give very good isolation, so that I can listen on noisy environments like airplanes and do not hinder others. The isolation also spare my ears; I don't have to cranck the volume up to mask background noise. OTH, if I would listen only at home I'd probably go for a fullsized Sennheiser and an amp. But I got a great speakerbased system, so no headphone listeing there, except in bed sometimes.
  21. To make myaelf clearer; you can easily import songs from the A3000 into SS, just use import.
  22. That sucks! There are probably ways around it. f.i., try to copy the DVDs to the HD, or try to import from SS itself (file>import) pointing to the DVD itself. If you got your whole lib on a players you can even import it drom the DAP (if you have no DRM). Goodl uck.
  23. I'm not sure I agree; there are DAPs that accept memorycards, so even if it would not be the same kind of memory, it is at least possible to use cards for musis playback. Furthermore 8GB Nano's sell here voor €230,- logically 16GB players would cost €460,- max, probably far less. Prices for flashmemory really felt a long way down the last months, and I'm convinced this will have a big impact on the DAP-market.
  24. Why? This week I bought a Kingston USB-stick, 1 Gb for €10. A pretty little package, well made, with a green LED and a metal clip etc. SD-cards nowadays are €15,- for 2 Gb. All retailprices with all the addups already included, so for me it isn't hard to believe that f.i. Apple will soon release 16Gb or even bigger flashDAPs. Why can't Sony keep up?
