Check the sample rate of the original mp3's. You can only transfer mp3s if they have a 44100hz sample rate.

I would be very leery of ebay batteries for your MD player. I bought one of the Ebay gumsticks, supposedly a genuine Sony battery, but as soon as I got it, you could tell it was a fake. The print was all fuzzy and it listed two different capacities. Throwing caution to the wind, I decided to try it anyway. The second or third time I tried to recharge it in the player, it overheated and swelled up. I could barely get it out of the player, but managed. After that I bought a dedicated charger and battery from a legit online store.

I use Total Recorder to convert wma files to mp3 files. Where it's really handy is when the audiobook is just one large WMA file. I break it up into 30 minute mp3 files, using the program's ability to split based on duration of low levels. If you use winamp to play the wma file, you can use Total Recorder's ability to accelerate the conversion. I typically get 10X or better speed.

I bought a couple of gumsticks off ebay a year ago (I forget the seller's name) which were being sold as name brand but they were definitely chinese knockoffs. They were cheap enough I used them anyway but the first time I left on in my MD, while plugged in to recharge, they overcharged, expanded, and got HOT. I had a hell of a time getting it out, but finally managed. Since then I bought another battery & stand-alone charger from minidisco and have had no problems, even with the chinese fake.

The deal was too good to pass up, but I should have. I bought two NH-14WM batteries off of Ebay from a dealer named "the-battery" that I now believe to be counterfeit. I suspected as much when I got them. The printing on the battery was not as sharp as the OEM battery and on the back the warning said they were for use only in charging systems designed "for NH-10WM", not NH-14WM. The first charge went find and they lasted quite a while, but I just charged one of them in my MZ-RH910 and when opened the battery door, it wouldn't come out. I rapped it a bit and it came out enough to grab and pull the rest of the way out. Sure enough, it had swelled up. I leaned my lesson....if the deal is too go to be true... Now I need to find a good price on a REAL sony NH-14NM.
