  1. No problem here either. Have had mine about a week. Think maybe you have a faulty case - button sticking??
  2. Try these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-NW-HD5-20GB-MP3...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-NW-HD5-20GB-MP3...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-MP3-Walkman-HDD...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Sony-Network-Walkma...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.fr/Sony-Walkman-NW-HD5-Sil...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.fr/Baladeur-SONY-NW-HD5-20...1QQcmdZViewItem
  3. Fantastic! Thanks a lot for the help
  4. Great, thanks for your help. Some reasonable ones on eBay! Was wondering if anyone has any experience in changing the User Interface from Japanese to Engish? Is this easy to do?
  5. So far I've just seen the NW-A800's in the shops and online in Black, White and Pink(!?). Sony's ad campaign seems to have revolved mostly around a blue/violet one, which I thought was kinda cool looking. Would luv to get an 8GB A800 in that color... does anyone know if it's available or will be available? I did Google it and came up with references on only Japanese sites. Thanks!
  6. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to buy a new HD5 Silver... if anyone knows where they still are available. The odd one pops up on Ebay, but I haven't managed to secure one yet. I luv this machine but my current one is starting to show signs of age and overuse... and to be honest there's nothing else on the market that appeals to me at the moment. Help! :-)
  7. I have a number of tracks which I "bought" with a voucher from Connect (these are my only "purchases" from Connect, fortunately). I recently had to initialize my HD5 as SonicStage stopped recognizing it for some strange reason. Now the purchased tracks won't copy back to the HD5, despite the fact that there are still 2 transfers left, according to the info in SS. Anyone else had a similar problem? Any idea why this would be?
  8. Unfortunately that hasn't made any difference...
  9. I think this may be a problem with my unit as opposed to SS Software, so I'm posting this here. The other night, with no warning, SS CP stopped co-operating with my HD5. It said that the device isn't compatible with this version of SonicStage. Which of course is nonsense, and I'd been using it a few moments before to transfer tracks. I uninstalled CP and reinstalled 3.2. I have the same error message, and it is telling me I need to reinitialize the device. This would be a real pain, as for space reasons I haven't kept most of my tunes in SS and would need to re-rip my CDs etc. Also, in My Computer in XP, the icon for the HD5 has been replaced by a generic Windows icon. And when I have my unit connected to the PC, the PC almost grinds to a halt if I try to navigate in Windows Explorer. Anyone any ideas why this is? And is there anyway around it other than reinitializing the device? Thanks!

  11. (from Techcentral.ie) Sony is continuing to develop copyright protection technologies that could put the consumer at a disadvantage. Following the company's recent introduction of CD copyright technology in the US, which made the user's PC vulnerable to hackers, Sony has filed a patent that could threaten the market in second hand games. The patent granted last month would allow Sony to lock a game disc to the first console the technology was played on so that it could not be then be used on another device. Sony has stated in the patent request that the aim is to protect itself from counterfeit software but conceded the technology could also prevent the sale of used software. Traditional copy protection works by making it more difficult to make more copies of discs. As this does no more than verify that the game disc is authentic, it can be used on any number of devices.
  12. try this - it usually works for me: First of All, go to Tools > Options > Advanced Settings on the Menu. Make sure the check box has a tick in it: “rename the corresponding music file….” This needs to be done, or any changes made in the Library will not be imported into the Player. Open each of the Audio Books in the Music Library – check the Track Number (over to the right). If they are all at 0 you’ll need to rename them – 1, 2, 3 etc. Regardless of the name of the file, they can get jumbled up if the Track Number is not filled in.

    Sony DVDs

I wouldn't mind, only I live in Region 2, bought my DVD player in Region 2, and bought the DVDs in Region 2. Everything should have been fine. Except for Sony's "extra layer of protection". Protecting me from myself. God forbid I should watch a Region 2 DVD in Region 2 on a machine which just happens to play all regions (not even hacked! I bought it that way - in Region 2!)

    Sony DVDs

I recently bought one of my favourite old TV shows (unfortunately owned now by Sony) on DVD. Bewitched, Season 1. Anyway, this would have been a great set of discs, except for one thing. SONY. This doesn't work on my Multiregion DVD Player. I've noticed there is a warning on the Amazon.com page that this won't work on Multiregion DVDs - but that it only applies to the region 1 release. This is not mentioned anywhere on Amazon.co.uk, regarding the Region 2 release, nor on the box or packaging. I assume this is another attempt by Sony to enforce their own Digital Rights management. Policing the digital world as usual. Anyone else encountered anything similar. Why do Sony feel the need to protect us from ourselves, and impose draconian (and unnecessary) restrictions on content we effectively own anyway!!!!
  15. Same as it was the last time I bought it €299. Was willing to pay it though - I REALLY did not want an A3000
