I see the news of the MCMD-R1 on the MDCP frontpage. Some people have spotted him on several sites but in fact I got mine today! Bought it at www.videopartner.nl for 89 euro's and the cardreader works perfect! I tested it with a Sony Memorystick and a xD picture card (can it read xD-cards? YES, althought xD is pretty rare with like say 8 in 1 or 6 in 1 cardreaders, the MCMD-R1 reads xD nicely).

Copying goes pretty fast and status-info (about the meaning of the different states of the statusled) are on the back of the reader so you can always read what the reader is doing (or what goes wrong).

Wow, this is very nice. What's the average battery life?

Sony claims that you can copy about 8x 128 MB (so about 1G of data) on one set of batteries, but I've not had the time to test myself. Also I use a set of 600 mAh Ni-CD rechargables that I already had so this also will shorten the batterylife a little. When I have some more detailed info I will let you know off course.

Wow, I'd like to see what you could do with higher-capacity batteries.

I might have to get one of these - I think my girl is getting me a NH900 for Christmas.

AAA Ni-MH batteries do not have as high capacities as AAA

AAA max = 700, AA max (at the moment) = 2300

So high capacity with AAA-size batteries is not as high as with AA-size

I am fairly certain it can't. USB is a master/slave environment-- usually, the computer is the master and the HiMD unit is the slave. Given that the pictures make it look like the HiMD goes into the exactly same display as it does when hooked to a PC, I think the card reader masquerades as a "master" device-- which couldn't work plugged into a PC (also a master).

And the USB cable would be backwards, since the plug you normally put into the computer (from HiMD) goes into the reader. You can get that sort of cable, but they're hardly common.

And I am pretty sure I've read it won't work, anyway, as well. wink.gif

ah, your refering to it requiring a A to A cable (A is the large head B is the small) as there is a A port on the card reader. right?

i have seen those around, and there are some funny cables that can be used as a modern null-modem cable between computers to (needs special software often tho. im guessing to set up a fake network card or something).

worst thing that can happen is that something shorts unless the unit have its usb power ability disconnected.
