RHYTHM_1
For my first post I would like to say two things ,wuzzzzz up and that this is a nice and informative site you playaz have here. Also in refference to the NZ-MH1 portable player, does the included sofware include music editing , also can I use my home unit (LP2 MXD3 )for editing as well when using a HI-MD ? dex Otaku
HiMD formatted discs cannot be used in other than HiMD equipment. Period. No, SonicStage has no editing capabilites beyond split and combine. This is what software like Audacity is for.

Christopher
Welcome to the forums. I've taken your bump and put it in the bin, no more of that Mr. Anyway, Audacity is a good program. I actually donated to them not long ago. btw, how much are you going to pay for the NH1, or rather, where are you buying it?
atrain
i'd also recommend soundforge 7. does all the stuff audacity does & can work in atrac, including netMD transfers. bit more costly but academic versions aren't too bad
RHYTHM_1
I've taken your bump and put it in the bin, no more of that Mr. Thanks for the welcome aboard Kurisu . What seemed to be a bump was a re-edited post, so just deleted it (Oppzzzzzzz) I purchased the unit from a chain store called Best Buy online for only $349, since they're not currently available in the stores at this time. Hopefully the unit will arrive between the 9th and 12 of this month, till then I'll just keep using this unwanted 20 gig MP3 player (IRIVER) . It is an O'k unit other than it just doesnt last a damn on a single charge , I can to only get 7 to 9 hrs of play time max if I just let it play without "touching" any of the unit buttons. The dayuum thing is rated @ 16 hrs of play time (yeah right) . It has some pretty cool features, for example I can download and view text messages (directions) from Map Quest or Jpeg and Bmp format for downloading photos of the map direction page by page. This is a really nice unit if you decide to hit the road on a motorcycle and want all you favorite MP3 tunes including radio reception, map direction ,photos etc. as long as your plugged into a D.C. powersource of coures . Anyway, Audacity is a good program. I actually donated to them not long ago.Your too generous, you da man Playa !

aeriyn
The battery life of the NH1 for playback isn't all that wonderful either if you compare it to other MD units, such as previous Sony units (with 30+ hours of battery life on a NiMH gumstick cell). So, what is an average lenght of time, I should expect to normally get from the NH1, with normal usage of pressing the function keys (scrolling, searching). I was only getting 7 to 9 hr of play time when it is rated at 16 hr (totally unsat).

RHYTHM_1
This site is off da hook, nothing but good info. I just came across an earlier write up by Ppk3000 on the NH1 called out the box review which covered a few thing including the battery life. Battery Life Charging the battery is a quick 1 hour for near-full (~80%) or 3 hours for a full charge. Listening to 4 hours long of Hi-SP encoded music with shuffling here and there, the player lasted for 14 hours and 53 minutes (I didn't last much longer lol), that's still pretty close to Sony's specs (15.5 hours on Hi-SP). However note that the NH1 lacks the AA extension pack! If you need the absolute longest battery life, go for the NH900
doclloyd
Re: soundforge, does anyone have any thoughts regarding the "new" consumer-based Sound Forge Audio Studio? (Link here... http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/Prod...FeatureID=7874) The other app I'm considering is the ACID Music studio, because it would be fun to play around with making my own music. That, and it has some (but not all?) of the editing features of Sound Forge Audio Studio? (Link here http://mediasoftware.sonypictures.com/prod...FeatureID=7816) I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts. I'm currently trying out Audacity and it's been alright for my currently basic needs, but I'm willing to entertain pay-for software Plus, direct to MD transfer is cool too. doclloyd
Sorry to bump, but I'm wondering about this topic, since I'm asking for these pieces of software for Christmas. Just want to make sure they'll be useful enough for my needs. I'm just starting to get into audio editing and am looking forward to editing/mixing tracks and recordings into some fun tracks. It's something to do to keep my mind off work
Action
Well I just got the MZ M100 as a kit with SoundForge 8. Came from B&H @ $US499. SF8 is a CD with no instructions, so I assume it's the basic audio studio. Thought I overpaid, but it seems average price. Also think I'll have to upload via SS 3.2 then into SF8? Anyone else got this rig and wanna share some tips?TIA.
Christopher
Employ Sonicstage 3.3 instead, and yes, that method of action should be fine. I don't have this setup, but as you grow used to it, tell us what you think?
dex Otaku
Sound Forge is an editor, and doesn't qualify as non-destructive depending on how you use it. To my knowledge [having used SF since V2 or so] it has no uploading features. You will likely have to upload via SS, export to WAV, and edit with SF or something else just as the rest of us do.Incidentally, the MZ-M100 will upload PCM to Macs as well.
