My Pimeta is finished! I tested it this morning.

None of the casework and wiring is really done yet, just simple ins and outs and power jack for testing purposes. I'm pleased with the sound, considering how I pretty much followed the schematic, and I have <20mV absolute DC offset voltave everywhere, so I'm pleased that I didn't wire anything backwards.

I'll post pictures of my system when I get the casework on the pimeta done... and my DV-563A comes in.

*runs off to get wire and a case and... lunch. *

more accurately, it is this.

it's a portable headphone amp (that can be built to be non portable, like mine is) that is rather inexpensive to make and sounds quite good.

Skyther claims he can build one in 30 minutes. After I started putting it together I realized I could probably do the same. Took me about an hour and a half of soldering, wiring up temporary jacks and testing. no oscilliation, no faults, everything working well.

Pretty good for my first shot at building a DIY amplifier, ne?

  • 2 weeks later...

I was going to stick a DC socket where the power lead used to go but I left it as it is. The batteries are housed inside the lid. So to change batteries, you take off the lid. The control configuration allows single-handed operation of volume and power while holding the kettle.

My next project was to house a META inside an UZI body (trigger as on/off, charging handle knob as volume control, batteries inside magazine) but I got bored. That would have been fun to take on public transport...
