dex Otaku
Did you turn the charger on? Pressing stop while the unit is plugged in but not running turns on the charger. Also, this should be in the tech support forum, not the HiMD forum.
jamiebecks23
im sorry but im stupid, lol, do i plug it in while its turned off or turn it of while its already plugged in?
dex Otaku
You can plug it in whenever. Just hit the stop button until it says 'charging'. Cheers.

Harper
Anyone tried rechardging OTHER batteries in their MD rather than just the 1 HIMH that came with it?
Qwakrz
wrt Hi-MD 600-800 (900 & NH1 have built in batteries) DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CHARGE ANYTHING BUT NI-MH OR NI-CD BATTERIES IN A Hi-MD UNIT. Attempting to recharge an alkaline cell will at best cause it to leek and destroy the unit, at worst it will explode & damage you. However, you can recharge most Ni-MH cells in the units and not just the one that came with it. I would suggest getting a 2400mAh cell for use in any of the Hi-MD's (600-800) as it will give you loads more life than the supplied cell. mAjEsTiC
Qwakrz : um the NH1 doesn't have a built in battery....0.o it's a removeable Li-Ion bettery...unless they've changed it...
Qwakrz
I meant built in in the sence that its not a standard AA type. I very rarely remove the battery from my NH1 so I kind of class it as built in. I should have used the word special or different

Harper
My concern was about blowing a NiMH in my new unit. I got a 707 a couple years ago and it came with a puny 700ma NiCaD. I never used the nicad, only NiMH. But I also never tried recharging my NiMH in the unit as they have different compositions and most chargers on the market are labled NiCaD OR NiMH. The ones which charge both usually have a switch to set for CD or MH. So that tells me they recharge differenly. Everything in my 707s manual stated charging only NiCaD so I never tried NiMH. My new 800 did not come with a battery but I saw the CHG label under the Stop button and found in the manual also about charging NiCaDs only. So some of you have charged NiMH's in your unit without problem? I use an external 30 minute charger for my NiMH which is quicker anyway but it would be nice to know in an emergency I could use my MD player. Anyone figured out time to charge MHs? mrsoul
I have 3 after-market gumstick NiMh batteries that have charged without any problems in my NH900, in fact I have had this recorder since late Sept and I haven't even charged the battery that came with the unit if that answers your question. See Kurisu's posts about batteries and shop around. I found some 1200 mAh gumsticks on clearance for $5 at Best Buy this weekend next to the MD players. Marketed by Energizer and states compatible with Sony MDs on the package... The other ones I have are 1400 mAh and have given me at least 4 hours or more of PCM recording on Hi-MD. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t...light=batteries
etotheix
The other ones I have are 2000 mAh and have given me at least 4 hours or more of PCM recording on Hi-MD. That's great mrsoul! 2000 mAh gumsticks? Where would you find those? I've never seen any with that high a capacity. I just bought an NH900 and am planning on doing a lot of PCM recording too. Hey, do you know if you can use a AA NiMH in the external battery case?
mrsoul
I stand corrected. The batteries were from Hong Kong and don't have a label. I had to find the old email receipt and go back to the site. They are 1400mAh gumsticks. Still better than the 900 that comes with the NH900. I was very wrong about the mAh on those batteries. I have corrected my post. Here is a link to a previous discussion about these batteries and the AA. http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t...6295&highlight= BTW, I have used a rechargeable NiMh AA (that one is positively 2000 mAh) from Rayovac (the 15 minute type) and I have had no problem. My old Sharp DR7 manual said to avoid mixing the rechargeable alkaline and the NiMh but since they are both NiMh, I figured it would be okay, I have not had any problems with that combo. The only weird thing is this: if you use just a fresh AA NiMh in the dry cell you CANNOT record or edit, only if there is a gumstick in place. It will play but no editing or recording and the battery level will be full. Weird. Again, sorry for the confusion. :wacky:

Harper
Im stubborn. I ONLY by MD units which use AA formfactor so I can use my NiMH and 30min charger. The 50min charger probably makes charging IN my NHF800 pretty useless. ANYWAY in an emergency it is good to know. How long is the charging generally for NiMH batters INSIDE an MD unit? I am using some 2300mah AA NiMH by Sony I saw at Minidisco.

javertim
Just a quick question about rechargables, as I am new still pretty new to this ... I have just purchased a used (although in excellent condition) Sharp MT877, which takes the NiMH gumstick battery (but also has the really nifty screw-on AA module). Anyway, just yesterday, I ordered a new NiMH from Radio Shack in the hopes of getting more battery life out of it, and not *having* to use to the AA module as often. Here is a link to the product that I ordered: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...t%5Fid=960-2102 I just wanted to make sure that battery is safe to recharge in my Sharp unit. I most certainly don't want to harm the unit itself. Also, when I purchased my Sharp, it didn't come with the manual ... But I have read online that there is a "battery drain" feature with the MT877 so that you can drain the NiMH before rechargin, therefore getting more life from the battery itself. Does anyone know how to activate such a feature? I haven't been able to find anything online that tells me *how* to do it. Thanks! :-) Tim
Christopher
Tim, That is a really low mAh on the battery. I would suggest you scout for a battery with 1400mAh for better battery life. bargaining4all.com seems to have the cheapest gumsticks besides ebay at the moment.
