groffhibbitz
I was thinking, I just got the HIMD NH900, and recorded some sounds. Now, I haven't used Sonic Stage too much yet, but after reading some posts here, it seems there is a possibility that my recording might get accidentally deleted or messed up in some other manner. So I connected my HIMD and was able to access the drive (in Windows of course) as the H drive, and I copied the HMDHIFI folder to my hard drive for back up purposes. I then removed the HIMD and wanted to see if I could import my songs into Sonic Stage from my Hard Drive so I wouldn't lose any data. It seems this doesn't work. So Sonic Stage detects that I have a HIMD plugged in and then allows me to import from there? Why can't I choose to import from my hard drive? Maybe there is a way to trick Sonic Stage into thinking I have a HIMD connected when really it is just on my hard drive........ Any thoughts? Has anyone heard of Daemon Tools? It allows you to mount an image to your computer as another disc drive. Is there something similar for HIMD? Please let me know what you think of this idea. ROMBUSTERS
sony pretty much tried to lock this ability to down to stop you form copying music from the disc as well. One mans backup is another mans piracy
groffhibbitz
I don't like it. I don't have any plans for music piracy, and even if sony was more lenient there are still a million easier ways for piracy than this. thepootleflump
You are right at the end of the day copying a CD using a computer or ripping to the computer is so simple Sony should forget DRM and free the Minidisc format, that way it might really take off. Why does Sony insist on implementing copy protection while all these MP3 players have no such protection?
streaml1ne
Because the upside for Sony is to license OGM to record labels and other media industries where they'll make a hell of alot more money than selling portable media players. I think.
etotheix
Could you copy that folder to another MD? 1) Copy the HMDHIFI folder to hardrive. 2) Put in a second, blank mindisc 3) Copy the hardrive HMDHIFI folder to the new MD, 4) Try to transfer stuff from there... Probably can't do it. But can't hurt to try!
etotheix
Tried it. No go. Tried to play the new disc and it says, NO TRACK.
Ryzir
Is it possible to: 1) Copy the HMDHIFI folder to the Hardrive 3) If SonicStage trashes the tracks while uploading 4) Copy the HMDHIFI back to the original disc?

xeroxide
I read somewhere on these forums that a key bit of data is recorded elsewhere on the disc (an area which we cannot see in windows). it's possible that this area (if it exists) contains the file header or some other important bit of information... Rombusters, i think the toc is contained within an index file in the HMDHIFI folder... can't remember (and can't be bothered checking) but am pretty sure I saw it somewhere... lol, if someone made a "clone-md" software, that would be cool... wonder if it would have a sheep logo? ;-)
etotheix
There is a file in addition to the HMDHIFI folder called HI-MD.IND (IND for index?). When I copied the MD to the harddrive and then to a another (freshly formatted) disc, I copied the folder and the IND file. Another, very interesting, thing I didn't mention: As the folder was being copied from the original MD to the hardrive, the REC segment on the LCD lit up for a bit even though I was just copying the disc. So there must be some DRM-ing going on there.
Christopher
The inital issue was uploading songs that were recorded in a live scenario, right? Then just upload them with Sonicstage and convert them to *.wav or whatnot using Sony's wav converter or Marcnet's utility. [more info here]
groffhibbitz
kurisu, you are right, that is the issue. It's just that I heard some stories about data being lost with Sonic Stage, and also MarcNets tool may have some little hiccups in it. I will do some more investigating of the TOC file. There was another file on my HIMD disc as well. I disregarded it earlier though since it said the file size was 0kb, but now that I think about it maybe it's just rounded down..
