k0r0n4
Hi, I'm using SonicStage 2.3.00.11020 to try and transfer some mp3 files I've imported to my MZ-N707. However, every time I try to transfer one I get the message: "Unable to transfer the following tracks using the original file format.", and then a list of the tracks I tried to transferDo I have to convert these to ATRAC3/ATRAC3plus? I thought it handled mp3 files! The disk is blank & initialized...so what am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!
Christopher
Welcome to the forums. No, it doesn't facilitate mp3 only. You must transcode the music to ATRAC3 only first. Your unit cannot facilitate ATRAC3plus playback..

dex Otaku
Ahhh.....but wouldn't trancoding it into ATRAC cause another lossy compression beyond that of encoding into mp3?←Yes indeed. However:At the moment it's the only choice we've got, making the point entirely moot.
Michael1980
The best way would be copying from CDs to Minidisc using Simpleburner.
dex Otaku
The best way would be copying from CDs to Minidisc using Simpleburner.←To elaborate:The best way is to rip actual CDs that you have bought and own.
k0r0n4
Yes, but most of my CDs that I own are in mp3 format on my computer. Reguardless, it just seems silly to me that Sony cripple their MD players this much. First, they don't let users copy tracks off the player, even if they put them there from the computer (it don't actually transfer the tracks back onto the computer, although it appears to; instead it just finds the reencoded files stored on your comp already and adds them to your library). Second, recorded tracks cannot be digitally copied off of it. And, finally, they don't support the most common codec, mp3?It's no wonder minidisk players never found a large market in the US, because, like Betamax, Sony shot themselves in the foot again and lost the market share because of it. I'm just happy I got my MD player for free (from a friend who bought an iPod after being so fed up with the MD player), otherwise I too would probably be upset with my purchase. gwynevans
Yes, but most of my CDs that I own are in mp3 format on my computer. There is a Sony MP3 conversion tool that you can download that can help. (I don't have the URL, but it's the optional part of the connect.com download)It will scan folders on your hard drive (including sub-folders) that you specify looking for MP3s in order to convert them and load the resulting .omg files into SonicForge. It also has an option to convert any MP3s currently in SonicForge. If you do this, you won't see anything different until you go to the properties for a track, at which point one of the tabs should show there's two source files, the .MP3 one and the .OMG one. It's not a fast operation (i.e. set it going and leave it running in the background/overnight) but it's not something that will need doing often. It would be nice if it could be automated for auto-conversions as part of receiving Podcasts, but it looks like that could only be done via a 3rd party external scripting app, that could drive the GUI.../Gwyn
zoltaaaan
Hey, but it's not true that it can't encode mp3's! I mean, I have the same problem with MZ N-510, it won't transfer mp3s onto the minidisc and gives me the sam message, but when I use another computer, it works quite well! A month ago I was able to transfer any file onto the disc (of sourse it would first encode it to atrac) but now it just says that it doesn't support mp3 format!! I think this is a sonic stage bug, ahhh it's full of bugs! And another thing: why can't I COMPLETELY uninstall sonicstage?! Is there a patch or something that would fix the support for mp3?Thanxx... Guest NRen2k5
a friend who bought an iPod after being so fed up with the MD player←That strikes me as funny. The Ipod has all the same copyright issues as MD. No offense to you, but your friend is a dumbass. He should have learned from his MD experience and gotten an iRiver or Creative player.
