The E888's don't over emphasize bass like the EX70/71/81 family. But they provide very little insulation from the outside world, and I find them a little uncomfortable after wearing for an hour or more. They have the best collection of user reviews of consumer electronics on the internet. Superbaldguy Posted February 24, 2005 Report Share Posted February 24, 2005 My take on the MDR-E888's is that these are very "musical" compared to most other buds. They are perfectly balanced between the highs and lows, sweet mids. They are low impedance and are easily driven with great output. Just like all buds, fit is paramount. My 888LP's are over four years old and still work as good as the day I bought them.I had sort of got away from the 888's, using/owning just about all the usual other phones that are associated with MiniDisc (like the EX71's), but I keep coming back to these babies. If isolation is not an issue, these are, probably, the most suitable headphones for MD use. The supplied case with the LP-version is pretty slick.In fact, I might get the SP version of these in the near future. They so good that I can warrant owning two sets. Superbaldguy Posted September 10, 2005 Report Share Posted September 10, 2005 Just a quick note - I did get the SP version a few days ago, and they actually sound better than the LP ones. I suppose my soon to be five-year-old 888LP's are showing signs of wear and tear and I did burn the SP buds in, properly, whereas the old 888's weren't done that way.You learn a lot by trial and error with headphones. I love the sound but for some reason they don't fit perfectly in both ears - I keep fidgeting with my left ear as the bud keeps coming out .It's true that you won't get as much bass response as with the EX70/71s...but you can make a custom digital equalizer setting on your MD to offset some of this (I have two custom settings; one for my EX70s and one for my E888s ).peaceWaywardTraveller Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not that I'm coming from a science background thingy, but I think it's something that some people in this world are born with. I was the only person in my group of friends at my school who was unable to wear standard headphones - they fell out as soon as I moved my head! I thought there was something wrong with me! I've since met plenty of other people who have this standard earbud incompatibility issue. (I also have a similar problem to AMPlitude with my Sony MDR-ED71s, joint is bit too heavy and sometimes pulls the left one out.)Sony's MDR-ED21 are the best I've tried! No chance of falling out. Moreover, I ALSO have the problem with the left earbud coming out due to the weight of the wire joint.While we're on the topic...this also made me quite frustrated with my EX81s - the left ear kept coming out whenever I turned my head, earclip notwithstanding. I could actually feel the screw in the left bud-piece loosening because I had to fidget with it so much and push the clip back up behind my left ear. The right one was basically fine.I would have been MUCH happier with the EX81s had they come with optional ear-clips. No one has two ears the same, so its obviously not going to fit the same for both ears. That siad if theres a problem with the cable then thats a different issue.
