Ss Is So Stupid.

So my laptop was sitting on my bed, overheated and shut down. Frikkin new P4 chips get so hot, my new laptop is half heat-removal, and when you don't give the heat sincs and fans lots of free space, well, the machine overheats and just shuts down.

Of course I'm telling you this because I was transferring tunes to my 900 via SillyStage when the shut-down occurred. SS wasn't happy.

Now, with any other device/software combo you might have to re-transfer the track that was being transferred during the crash, but with SillyStage I have to connect to Sony's website to verify something or other, then follow some sort of database rebuilding steps that involve removing and re-installing SillyStage, and you have to do it just so (same dir, say no to the new DB, etc) or all you shit will be gone, so the warning screen says:

And, well, I`m going to do it (of course). I`m a music geek and a computer geek and I`ll follow the steps and get things running again. But it makes me think about Joe User and what this would mean for him. Likely it would involve calling tech support or their computer geek friend.

Re-installing... come on, Sony.

SillyStage sucks.

I think the real lesson here is:

1) use an original source, i.e. the CD

which usually implies

2) buy your music

Unfortunately, with the advent of copy-protection schemes on CDs, this is made more and more difficult to deal with.

I'll point out again that if you have a library on your computer that is ripped from your own CDs, it's usually faster to just rerip the material than it is to go through the hassles and qualty loss of transcoding.

and this is why im getting damn mad at sony, here they have a format that can put perform cd-rw media in storage and flexibility, turn it into a drag&drop mp3 player and data unit and they would have outsold ipods. but no, they have to bow to the paranoia of their record label and add one of the most silly and failure sensitive drm system known. if only the upload and download bit was written after the file was verified safe on either end then i would have understood but they have to write it before they do the copying to make sure that noone intercepts the signal and therefor allow for unlimited uploads, dont worry at if a upload fails the bit isnt reset sad.gif

oh and may i ask what unit your talking about skradgee? and do you know if it available in europe?
