Fast Eddie
I've been using 105 quite a bit. But what bitrate is it comparable to for MP3? To me it sounds better than an MPs encoded at 112.What do you think?
aeriyn
I'd tend to agree with you; IMO, ATRAC3 is a better low-bitrate codec than MP3. It isn't as good as AAC or vorbis, but it's close enough that the differences are largely academic, yet are measurable.Of course, if you're like me and listen to bitrates over 192kbps, the differences between codecs become about nil. With normal use I can't tell the difference between 224kbps AAC, 256kbps MP3, 256kbps vorbis, 256kbps ATRAC3+, etc.
Fast Eddie
Yeah, I think it is better than Mp3 at the same bitrate. it sounds as good as an MP3 at 128kbs.

Michael1980
I hope you are not using 105 Atrac3 on NetMD units, since it offers no space saving over 132 Atrac3.

But is that right? Wasn't 105 created for use with netMD in the first place?. If so, what would be the point of it if it doesn't give extra space over 132? Michael1980
Nope, it was created to use with Network Walkmans. MDLP uses only, SP/LP2(132)/LP4(66).
