If you've never seen it before, learn more here: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx

I've been tweaking with this program for a few days now and to be honest, I'm actually impressed. On two seperate machines infected with spy/ad-ware, it has consistantly found things that ad-aware could not. It is somewhat "bloaty", but nothing that I'd really gripe about. Featuring consistant definition updates, a shared ad/spy-ware feature [i.e. if someone else who uses the program gets a new kind of spyware, it detects it and updates everyone else's definitions] and alot more, I'm actually going to keep it on my system.

You can download it here. Don't worry firefox/opera/stolen copy of XP/etc users, you can click on "Continue" within that page and skip the genuine Windows validation [and also avoid ActiveX prompts].

Anyone else use this? I'd like to hear your impressions.

Have just installed it. Looks pretty good. Lots of different features you can enable and disable... Might be a bit too complex for biginner users, but we'll see. Microsoft has put a lot of helpful 'ballon pop ups' in the program to help confused users.

I just hope it doesn't take up too many system resources if it has to run in the background.

probably, it´s a very good thing, but i just don´t trust them somehow so:

anti spyware from THE SPY ???

-isn´t that a bit schizophrenic ?

It is an oxymoron....

Btw, Microsoft is back to its old anticompetitive tricks again:

Startpagina Alert.

Startpagina.nl is a massive portal site in the Netherlands

and to promote its own site MSN.nl over it, Microsofts Antispyware

declares any site, which contains 'Startpagina' in its address as a browser hacking site,

recommending to use MSN instead.

Expect more of these tricks to appear soon in this product.

Solution: Don't use Microsoft products.

Ever.

  • 4 weeks later...

After installing this program, every time I restarted my computer and signed back in (Windows XP SP2) I would get a pop-up window from anti-spy ware saying would I like it to run in the "try icon background, try icon normal, updating, and one other'.

It is extremely annoying! Anyone know how to get rid of this message? Or have the same problem?

Atm I have had to uninstall the program
