Converting 48kHz WAV files for use with the HD5?

Hei All!

I have some Wav-Files with 48Khz Sampling Rate.

But i saw that ATRAC cannot play/encode Sampling Rates except 44,1 kHz.

Although i read this i tried to import the Wav-Files and it worked!! Then i tried to change the Format/Codec to ATRAC3plus with 256 kBit/s.

AND:

I worked!!

But i transfered it to my HD5 and it sounds a little bad. Much worse than the same sound konverted by a better program.

Is the Sampling rate Converter of SS 3.2 so bad??

So i tried to make MP3s with an external Software. Still in 48 KHz Sampling Rate.

I imported then to SS3.2 and transfered it to my HD5.

I workes well but i have no gapless playback.

It seems to be not possible with the mp3 format.

Does anyone have a better solution to have gapless playback AND good sound quality?

Thanks a lot!!

Tom

Yep, it'll work. When ur wav/mp3 are converted by sonicstage( from 'importing files'), which means that the songs are not ripped by 'import cd' mode, they would have gaps. Btw, I don't think atract or mp3 can be in 48hz...even if u convert ur wav from 48hz to atract/mp3, they are down to cd quality 44.1 hz. In order to have gapless, u need to burn ur wav/mp3s to a cd image or real cd (burn them gapless of course!), for the cd image case u need a virtual rom driver to run the image and sonicstage would rip it like a normal cd so the result is gapless. So that why 'it works':ol_lol:

DO NOT convert ur mp3 with sonicsatge as u import them...firstly they would have gaps, and secondly poor quality(cuz, mp3 is already compressed, if u compress it again to atract...). Instead do the method I mentioned above, burn then into cd image or to cd ( select gapless mode in ur burning app of course, for the Nero case, select no gap between songs, and u may want to put in small values of crossfade frames, however if u know foobar2000, install the special edition, it burns a gapless cd/image by defualt, it is better than Nero whe burning mp3 to cd, however, in the case of ripped wavs from cd, they are already gapless, so do not use foobar, use Nero and just select no gap between songs.)

Lastly I want to say that use atract instead of mp3, largely becasue u can use the custom EQ in ur player, that why I bought my own. The custom EQ rules, there's nothing better than it .

Enjoy!

Mp3 with 48 kHz is possible without conversion.

A3+ not possible with 48 kHz.

So you mean the only chance is to burn a gapless cd and rip it again.

Well ok. But then nero or anything else has to convert to 44,1 kHz. Maybe they make it better than SonicStage....

I will see.

At the moment i accept the small gaps. The sound with 320 Kbit/s MP3 with 48kHz is perfect and it works so far...

I´ll see.

Thank u!!

Sonicstage can not be compared with Nero. They are used for different purposes. In fact is troublesome to burn a gapless cd with nero, especially if the source files are lossy.

Btw, how do make a 48khz mp3? I've never known that. :ol_blankstare: ???

Hi!!

It is compareable because both do a downsampling from 48kHz to 44.1 kHz.

Nero also has to do this when i want to wright an Audio cd. And SS3.2 has to do the same if i want to have A3+ files.

But ss3.2 does this very bad.

That´s the difference.

I do not concern the wrighting on CD. Of course it seems to be better gapless with nero. How to burn wavs on Audio cd with SS3.2? Not important.

The source files are not lossy. It´s wav with 48 Khz.

With MP3 it´s possible just to encode the 48 kHz files and the keep being in 48 Khz.

Looks like u totally don't understand me. Firstly why do u use SS3.2 to burn cd? Nero is the obvious choice, they used for very different purposes!? I was talking about foobar and nero (sorry I wasn't clear...), cuz when u use nero to burn cd, the settings are troublesome, where as foobar burns a gapless cd by default, flawless. And could you tell me HOW you get a 48khz mp3? I've never seen any settings that allows me to encode in 48khz before...and even if the source file is at 48khz, the resulting mp3 is at 44khz for me, so I really want to know how you do it?

Thanks

Ok.

Once again.

I don´t want to burn a cd with SS 3.2. I never tried to burn a cd.

I just want to hear 48 khz wavs in best Quality on my HD5.

You can make 48 khz Sampling rate MP3s. I did it with WinLame.

You are right that i can try to burn a gapless cd with foobar, nero what else.

But then foobar or nero has to convert it to 44,1 khz. And this is only possible with more or less Qualityloss.

Did you understand me now?

ATRAC3+ has no support for 48 khz. So it will not be possible hear the sounds gapless without converting it to 44,1 khz.

Now i have the mp3s with 320 kbit/s and i´ll keep this now at the moment because the gaps are very small. And the focus is on the sound quality.

Bye

Tom
