m00nLord
Hi Everybody, after getting back my MD (Sony N910) from Repairing by Sony, I plugged in into my USB Port (as I did ever in the Past). But now there seems to be a Problem, when I'm trying to convert MP3 Files or what ever... into OGM Files. The Convertion begins, but then my PC crashes - an I can do absolutly nothing. I've to restart and the same thing happens again, when I try next time. Updating my Windows with the Microsoft Patch didn't do anything, using SonicStage or Real Player - I tested it all - it's allways the same.So my Question is: What's to do? Is there any other Way transferring Files to my MD? Please help! Thank youGreetz m00nLord Edited March 14, 2005 by m00nLord

atrain
the fact that he mentions real player shows that SS is out of date. please pay particular attention to the updating sonicstage to 3.0 part of the forum.

dex Otaku
Update ffdshow to the most recent version. I have been using versions post-October 2004 and never had a single problem with them interfering with SS.Alternately, go into the ffdshow audio config [it made icons in your start menu] and simply disable its codec support for mp3. m00nLord
Thank you Guys! Problem is solved, it is the FDDSHOW Crap. I deinstalled it and all works fine, damn - what a waste.Greetz m00nLord
bug80
Try the K-Lite codec instead. That one has no problems with SonicStage. And upgrade SonicStage to version 3.0, as atrain mentioned.
dex Otaku
Never, ever install the k-lite codec pack. It contains severely outdated and broken codecs, and should be considered tantamount to a virus in itself. In fact, avoid codec packs altogether. If you want a codec for something, seek it out individually and get the newest version.I still don't understand the problems people have with FFDSHOW; I have installed it on many [30+] machines and never had it cause it single problem on any of them. Though it usually does seem that others are downloading versions that are ancient.
bug80
My version of K-lite works fine, with performance comparable to the newest version of ffdshow. I too thinks installing the codecs manually is better. Maybe I'd just do that.I'd say ffdshow is broken too, the issue it has with SonicStage looks like a bug. atrain
i don't understand codec packs, with google & five minutes you can have all the codecs you need.except divx most of the video codecs are under 500kb iirc
dex Otaku
Codec packs are for people who want broken media support, crashes, &c.FFDSHOW is for people who want frameserver access to certain stream formats that are not fully VfW compatible.
