Sony introduces new 8GB NW-A1200 Walkman

Several news sources are reporting that Sony Japan has released a new version of the NW-A1000, this time in a 8gb flavor dubbed "NW-A1200". Featuring two colors, gold and black, it's sure to be a niche stunner. Unfortunately, it will only be available via Sony Japan's website.

These special edition units will sell for about 30,000 yen -- roughly $250.

I wish Sony would just ship the product instead of doing paper launches. 5th gen iPods are shipping already, Zen micro photo are available in retail stores already (8GB, color OLED Screen, $250). Sony needs to re-think about the pricing.

Agreed. I am already planning on buying the new A3000 but the lack of any information is really dampening my spirit.

that price is just a yen to dollar conversion (not the u.s. price). usually things are more expensive in japan. there is a good chance, price will be lower in u.s.

I hope Sony decides to release an A3200 as well, with at least 30GB, preferably 40, to better compete with the iPod 30GB. Selling the A3000 for $299 (as it seems to be the case) will not work.

I know, I am just going with the high end of the chance it wll cost a bit more than I am expecting. If it comes in under 350 canadian with taxes, i'll be a happy camper.

Hmm...we can see from this that there's a possibility for Sony make changes. Fingers crossed for a 40gb A3000.

chris, please make me like this product.. why do i get repelled when i see it? i am not disputing the specifications but the looks imho is shyte..

Yes, you really need to see it in person veezhun. When I attend CES 2006, I will take videos of the new units with more in-depth pictorials and angles to really help everyone get a sense of the design.

pata2001, it does feel like a paper launch, similar to the problems that ATI has been plagued with for a few generations with their video cards. Nvidia has been really hurting them badly because when they announce a product, it is released almost immediately. Sony should realize this forward-thinking manuever is immature and will only cause them to lose customers, because the average consumer doesn't have a high enough attention span to be enthralled by a Sony device for months until it is released.

hey price in japan is more cheaper .....As my brother works there ,in dollors it is going to cost more.But i live in India where I bought Nw-hd3 for $510 , nw-hd5 for $444 & nw-e505 for $295 .As lot of custom duly is levied in india on imported items about 100% of the initial cost & then 4% VAT is also levied in the last.sooo ur lucky in that case.....

I'm going to get the A3000, this is pretty cool though. (But does anybody know if the Vaio Pocket series is dead? I'd love a revamped version, had everything I wanted)
