SonicStage version 1.5 was working properly previously ... then stopped. I assume this was because of some change to my system. Based on all information in the FAQs on this site, probably because I installed RealNetworks RealPlayer.

Using the FAQ info from this site I did the clean install several times, updated MDAC and JET components etc... but I was still running SP1 at the time ... I REALLY didn't want to upgrade to SP2 and bloat out my system.

Finally I figured I may as well try SP2.

I uninstalled everything:

* Uninstalled RealNetworks software (and removed all directories)

* Deleted all registry roots starting in RealNetworks

* Uninstalled OpenMG limited patch

* Uninstalled OpenMG (rebooted)

* Uninstalled SonicStage 2.3 (my last attempt several weeks ago) (rebooted)

* Deleted C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation folder

* Deleted C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage folder (haven't seen this one in your FAQs)

* Deleted C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared

* Deleted C:\Program Files\Sony

* Deleted registry branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sony Corporation\

* Deleted registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sony Corporation\

* Deleted registry branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sony\

Rebooted

Went to Windows Update and installed SP2 for Windows XP

Went to Windows Update and installed all other critical updates for SP2 (5 of them)

Rebooted (about 3 times just to be sure system was all nicely happy)

Went to Http://sonicstage.connect.com/SonicStageInstaller.exe and got installer

Installed SonicStage 3

Rebooted

Connected MD Device

Started SonicStage 3

Get the same popup as always: Updating SonicStage database. Please restart SonicStage after the updating has completed. It then briefly flashes "updating" and closes.

It does the same every time you try to open it.

Additional info on the problem:

Ojbsir.exe - reports "Cannot connect to the Internet" ... which is very strange because the Internet connection is active and working well.

OMG2OMA.exe - reports "Cannot optimize the database because the database file version is not recent enough.

Log reads

[2005/03/19 19:08:57] ----- [sTART] SonicStage File Conversion Tool -----

[2005/03/19 19:09:28] [ERR] Cannot operate Metallic DB version. (COMG2OMAApp::InitInstance)

[2005/03/19 19:09:28] ----- [ END ] SonicStage File Conversion Tool -----

From what I can tell it appears to be a problem creating or accessing the database.

Do you have a compiled list of known software which can cause problems for your Mdsb Installer Project?

Is there really still a database that I haven't killed ... or is the error being reported simply misleading?

I'm a QA manager for a software company ... so if you need more info please let me know and I'll do my best to comply.

Thank you guys for your time as volunteers keeping us all in music.

I'm stumped.

After you've updated to SP2, I think you should have uninstalled the previous version of SS completely using the instructions in the FAQ and install version 3 afterwards.

If I've read it correctly, you didn't try that yet. Good luck!

* EDIT * oops, I didn't read it correctly smile.gif you did the uninstall before upgrading to SP2. I'm sorry, I have no idea what this could be sad.gif

Forgive me for making an utterely useless comment (if there ever was one) - but this doesn't sound very encouraging - especially since you've followed all the releveant instructions which have seemed to work fine in the past.

I hope the problem can be solved...

i'm with these guys, i'm mystified.

maybe try deleting the 'MTData.mdb' in the \sonistagebackup folder as it is the only database in any of folders.

can you run any of the exe files standalone from explorer? i can if that helps. omg2oma.exe etc.
