Mz-nh900 Ate My Recording T_t

Hi, I'm sorta kinda new here and just bought my first MD (the MZ-NH900) about a month ago. I've been lurking around here way before then doing my research before going for MD, though.

I'm not sure where this was supposed to go, so I figured this would be the best place for it.

Recently, I tried uploading a jam session I had just recorded. It was already split into tracks before I plugged in the MD player, but unnamed. Before uploading them using Sonicstage 2.3, I decided to rename the tracks.

That's when the problem happened.

Several of the tracks suddenly refused to play, returning a Play Error message. This was strange as they were playing quite well before the renaming. I had also previously uploaded other recordings to my computer through SonicStage with no issues (in fact, I'm pretty pleased by it and didn't suffer any of the problems frequently reported on these forums).

I'm not asking whether it's possible to get those tracks back - I figured they were dead and they weren't particularly good sessions anyway, so I erased the disc after I had finished uploading and converting. I just want to check if anyone has had this problem before and/or knows the cause of it so that I can avoid it next time. I figure I messed up in the renaming process somewhere, but I would just like to be sure.

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not sure why you had that problem. I have renamed on the MD before transferring in 2.3 without problems. Maybe next time, upload, erase the MD and then you can do what you want with the tracks (divide, combine, rename) without problems. What type of MD were you using?

I was using a Hi-MD. And yeah, I didn't have any problems before either. I figure next time I'm just gonna track the recording, upload it unnamed and rename them on the computer. Safer that way. I sure wish I knew what went wrong that one time, though.

The problem you are exhibiting is noted in two threads.

It is a suspected bug - and it appears all 1st gen Hi-MD players are no longer for sale.

I guess Sony don't want the expense of recallinmg all the faulty units? Mine has been sent back and I am awaiting for a refund.

If it's a bug, then it's probably replicable. I had trouble finding the two threads you mentioned before I made this thread, so I'd appreciate it if you could point them out to me. Maybe looking at what other people did will help me figure out the precise set of actions leading to the bug.

In any case, this has only happened once out of the 5-6 uploading sessions I've done over the month or so I've had my MZ-NH900. I think I'll hang on to it and try to avoid the problem; I'll only send it in if it becomes more frequent.

Thanks for the info.
