Does anyone know where or who can I get a Sony MX-S2000 or a Clarion DMZ345BK from?

I e-mailed Audiocubes and they told me they don't have it and they will not do special orders for it. Japan Direct hasn't e-mailed back yet. Please any info will be greatly appreciated.

If anyone has any insight on in car minidisc players could you please let me know what other players are good for the money.

Thanks,

Dan

You mean a car deck that will play HiMD?  None have been mentioned by Sony yet.  Could be some time before we see anything.

BTW, you have a Porsche?  I have a 1970 911T.

That's sweet. I love Porsches.

That sucks they need to get on top of that. So all the car decks out there only play the original minidiscs but some players will play MDLP. I really want one of those decks though. I hope someone can help me out.

I know you want a H-MD deck, but since it might be a while, if ever, before we see one, here are work-around ways to playing a minidisc player in a car.

1) FM transmitter. It may not offer the best quality sound, but so far its the cheapest workaround. I use this with my mp3 player. Just tie the transmitter down onto the air-vents with twist-ties and it should be good.

2) Car stereo with a line-in jack: Probably the best quality, but ya need to find a stereo with a line-in jack, which are hard to come by. This is probably a better idea because then you can remove the MD player from the car with you. A thief may not be all too keen on taking something that doesn't look all to valuable to him.

I like the last idea. That would work well and like you said you can always remove it and use it to make more md's. I'm going to look into getting a car power source and gonna try to find if my head unit has a line in.

I have a Sony F7705x CD/Mp3/Atrac (not atrac3+) Car deck that has a line in on the back that works great! I got it off eBay brand new for around $100.

Thanks I will lokk into that. I was being picky about the looks because it is going in my car but I might look into something that will work and just get the job done. If you find anyother deals like that please let me know porsce076@aol.com

I have a Sony CD/MP3 deck in my car that has a line in.  I plugged my 600D into it and found the quality (From the headphone jack) was lacking.

I'd prefer a dedicated MD player... hopefully someday, we'll have one!

My old minidisc plsyer broke so I bought a 600D. Do you like yours. Mine comes in the mail monday. I'm searhing around all the big car audio companies japanese sites and checking out their units. There are some nice units available over there. Happy Easter and thank you guys for the help and suggestions.

Update everyone. I just recieved an e-mail from audio cubes and they are looking into getting the Sony WX-S2200 very soon. Also the e-mail I sent them about getting some better models they sent to their operations manager and he is going to look into it. I will update everyone when I recieve some more info about this.

Kenwood still has MD car radio -- it's MDLP but at LP2 that's still around 2 1/2 hours per disc (or 2 - 3 CD's) so taking say 3 or 4 small discs with you isn't a problem and should be more than enough for usual trips.

Sound out is great as well -- I'd love a HI-MD car player but my Kenwood works fine for the moment.

(also has FM, MW and LW)

Hi,

I already responded to this once, and it seems to have vanished. Japan Direct got me that Clarion unit in November. My local Car Toys installed it for $110. Nice unit, pretty colors :-) and reasonable price, much lower than MSRP. No customs either.

Hi all!

If you have an existing Sony CD, cassette or MD head unit, I would scour Ebay and keep an eye out for the MDX-66XLP 6-disc MDLP-compatible changer. I haven't used it myself but it certainly would equate to 16 hours of music in LP2 or 32 hours in LP4 -- a long drive certainly!

The unit also apparently works with the RMX69RF FM modulator / CD-changer controller and if you feed the player's audio directly out to a head unit equipped with any form of "aux in" connection for tape decks, etc, you can avoid use of the controller's RF-modulated output.

With regards,

Simon Mackay

I have one of these listed for sale in the classifieds, but it's probably 2 months since it was posted, and it may have been shuffled to the end of the list. I think I was asking $275 with shipping in the lower 48 included. I'll check the classifieds to verify what I said, but in any case, I got it at Crutchfield, used it for a year, and took it out when I got my Clarion 2-DIN this year.

[Edit] Yeah, look here:

Only $250 plus shipping...

I've got a Sony MDX-CA790X and no complaints. It uses group function in a way that I wish was implemented on Sony home decks, i.e., play though the whole disc normally with the option to jump between groups -- no goofy "turn on group mode" crap. Sound quality is quite nice and it has a tunable five-band EQ. I got it on eBay from a car audio shop somewhere in England a couple of years ago -- eBay is definitely your friend for MD stuff, but if you're wanting MDLP it pays to note models and cross-reference with the equipment browser on minidisc.org because there's a lot of people still selling 1st gen kit.

Hello everyone. Just got a good deal on a Kenwood KMD-44 on eBay for $91.00. I've been looking for a car deck MDLP player for a while. Is this a good deck?

Still can't believe people in the U.S. never adopted the MD format like they should. I've had MD now since early 90s and love them. Still havn't got HD-MD. My MDLP disk hold enough for me at the moment.

Nice forum. biggrin.gif

Excellent unit -- Kenwood unfortunately have pulled out of the MD market so make the radio last as long as you can.

I still have a Kenwood KMD car radio also MDLP but I think the model nr was 43 in Europe (as on AM we also have radio stations on LW as well as MW so the tuner spec is slightly different).

In essence it's the same as yours but the tuner has LW and probably some European Traffic and FM text stuff that might not exist in the US.

I've found that LP2 is way good enough for Car listening and you'll get around 2 1/2 hours per MDLP disc recorded at LP2.

So even if you take 3 discs with you (don't occupy much space in your pocket) that's around 7 - 9 CD's --- try carrying those around and fiaffing around with a stupid CD changer in the trunk (boot) of your car.

If you can tolerate LP4 then you'd get even more --although I think LP4 is probably only suitable for speech.

In a car you won't notice any difference between SP and LP2 so I'd convert any SP stuff over to LP2 for using in the car.

I will be interested if and when a HI-MD car radio comes out but while my Kenwood is still working I'm satisfied.

Cheers

Just installed the Kenwood unit today myself. Great unit!!! I'm really happy with it. About the ony annoyance is that it's hard to see the display in daylight.

It's funny. I've had MD for a long time but never really fooled around with different recording settings. I think with Sonic Stage 3.0, I'll give it a try and see how much of a difference LP2 is over LP4. Thanks for the heads up.

Long live the MD!!!!!!!!! Only wish more fellow Americans would see the beauty of it. tongue.gif
