Guest Stuge
Few days back i bought Nw-E505 & I was impressed by the way it looked. As it is the nicest looking flash based player in the market I bought this player for Rs 10000 after discount as original price of player is tagged around Rs 13000.The player has its pros & cons b`coz no player is full in itself .It has a nice FM .Now I will tell about its features:1.Supports ATRAC3plus and MP3 formats. Incorporates 512MB of IC memory enough to record the equivalent of 23 CDs (*1).2.Built-in wideband FM tuner The built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery delivers 50 hours of continuous playback (*2). 3.Supports USB bus power for blazing-fast file transfer - 3 hours of music playback by just 3 minutes charging.4.The organic EL display enables up to three lines of text display. Multilingual track-title display: English, Chinese (Simplified Chinese) and Korean5.The jog shuttle can be easily operated with one hand.6.SonicStage Ver. 3.0 (CD-ROM) makes ripping, editing and transferring of music files a snapNote: *1 In ATRAC3plus 48kbps mode, assuming 1 CD = 60 minutes of play time.*2 In ATRAC3 105kbps mode. Dimensions (W x H x D): 84.9 x 28.8 x 13.9 mm Mass: approx. 47 g (including rechargeable battery)Operating instructions: English, Chinese (Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese), Korean, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, FinnishAbout sound quality:1.U can change bass & treble from +3 to -4 using jog shuttle.(which makes it easily Operatable)2.Sound quality is great & better than any other player in the market3.Buttons for the volume just placed behind jog dialAbout Unit:1.Front side of the player is made of plastic & back side is made of metal which makes this player sturdy2.Built Quality is good3.OELD Screen looks really good on the player.(But in daylight or sunlight it hard to see anything on the screen).4.Scratches do occur but not as easily as they occur in new i-pod nano.5.USB charge only (usb is supplied)6.It takes about 2hours to charge fully7.There r two buttons on the player which r quite hard (not easy to operate) but u can soon accustom to it.8.There buttons on back as well which can be used for shuffle ,repeat etc & even for changing sound settings also9.Cover for the USB port is quite flimsy or very delicate and it is needed to be handled with caution. Headphones:Supplied headphones r not good (b`coz it hurts ears) therefore i will recommed to buy one.CaseThere is black case given with the player which is very useful.Extras1.Clock is given with the player which adds some utility(but remember clock utilises battery whether ur using ur player or not)But after update to 2 u can easily add second clock option. 2.Screen savers such as Bubble looks great, stadust & aquarium also looks great ( both can be used only after updating to firmware 2)3.FM is also included in the player which is nice.(this option is not available with Sony hard disk players)4.Battery life is great about 50hours of playback Bad points:1.DOES NOT PLAY WMA, WAV (they r need to be converted,)allthe songs which tranferred to the player r encrypted ,so u cannot use them back in ur computer2.OELD SCREEN CANNNOT BE SEEN EASILY IN DAYLIGHT OR SUNLIGHT3.Belt cover given with player is also very delicateAbout sonic stage:About sonic stage 3.0 (supplied)very easy to use software .i can bet u it is far much better than previous versionNow one of the most important thing i.e Memory:NOTE: SONY CLAIMS 512MB BUT YOU WILL GET ONLY 487MB(UR COMPUTER EXPLORER & SONIC STAGE WILL SHOW THIS)Reasons for this is Sony assumes 1mb =1000kb & windows assumes 1mb=1024kbFor any further questionS Ur welcomed. I will update as necessary Edited January 12, 2006 by Stuge
leonyuhanov
when i was at the sony shop, a couple of guys before me bought a few of these. They looks cool, but they are expensive, i think the 1gig players were somethign like $389AU, and the 20gig NW-HD5 is $459. And about the memory thats normal, pretty much any drive manufacturer will tell you 512 when all you will realy get its just under. My 20gig one is like 19.80 gig or something close to that!a few questions:Is the Seek time on these things fast???Is the cold start time fast? Can you recharge the unit via usb?Leon
imagine_
For the NWE4/5xx there is no noticeable lag whatsoever. You just press play and it plays instantly, there is no lag at all when changing songs, which I did notice that there was with the ipod shuffle. It's always on so there is no "cold start", and you can only charge it through USB.
Guest Stuge
It takes about 2hour to charge fully. And about network walkman showing 487mb is b`coz Sony judges 1mb = 1000kbbut are windows judges 1mb=1024kb.I think its cheating on the part of sony people b`coz every where in the world 1mb= 1024kb not 1000kb(Even in the big computer books)Note=Sony doesn`t write any where in the nw-e505 box about all this(but it is carefully written on the back side of nw-hd3 & nw-hd5) Edited October 28, 2005 by Stuge
ajitp
all manufacturers do that with capacity. When quoted, 1mb = 1000kb and 1gb = 1000mb.

It looks fairly similar to the Apple AC-USB adapter...just black in color. I got it for 19 dollars at Best Buy in Fort Worth, TX. I think it charges faster than the computer USB. Guest Stuge
Update:After using walkman NW-E505 for over two months...The Extension cord that came with my E505 broke yesterday .I don`t know how (I always put my cord in headphone case after use). But it seems to me the it very fragile & need to be used with caution.I`m sure they are also shipping the same extension cord with new network walkmans[(eg A3000/1000/600(series)].The material used to cover the inside wires is not good at all. That`s my conclusion. Ascariss
Stuge how long is the extension cord?the one with the A series is roughly 69cm end to end, inlcuding the connecters. The quality of it is not that bad, the cover on the wire is of durable quality I say. Sadly i can't say the same for my extension cord that came with the EX71 phones though, the wire is much too thin.
Guest Stuge
Length of the extension cord is 50cm which was shipped with E505 & is about 19cms short from your extension cord. But do you have any idea about the lenght of the cord shipped with 600(series)?One thing i know is that overall length (extne +headphones one) of cord(shipped with E505) is shorter than the overall length(1.2m or 120cm) of cord shipped with HDD models(NW-HD3 & HD5).So it may the same case with new models also... Ascariss
If the A600 gets the same cord as its larger brothers, then there shouldn't be any worry about quality.

Guest Stuge
UPDATE:I would like to add further that NW-E505 does support Atrac3 plus 352kpbs ..How to Convert Cd into Atrac3 plus 352kpbs1.)Import Audio CD tracks in Wav format2.)Now In "MY LIBRARY" of Sonic STAGE VER3.3,Click on transfer mode setting.3.)Click on "Specified Bit rate tranfer mode "& set the bit rate to Atrac3 Plus352kpbs 4.) Transfer your Wav files to your network walkman .Now Wav files will be converted to 352kpbs ..Atrac3 plus 352kpbs files will be transferred to your Network Walkman
