Hi all, i am after some new head phones for my mz-nh900, as i am only using the stock phones that came with the player. I have been looking at a few different head phones between £15-£35.

Just wondered if any of you know which are the best or can give any other phones that are better??

my choices so far:-

Sony MDR-EX71SLB Fontopia Headphones

Sennheiser PX 10 Vertical In-Ear Headphones

Sennheiser MX 500 In-Ear Headphones

Any advice would be greatfully recieved.

Off top of my head, for about 40 Pounds Sterling or US$80, you have quite a bit of choice:

Senn PX100/PX200

Koss Porta Pros

Sony MDR-V6 (though they border on being not quite portable), MDR-XD200

Sony MDR-E888 or MDR-EX81/71

Sharp MD33

I'd personally recommend the Senn PX100s, I happen to think they sound the best for US$50 (I haven't tried KOSS Porta Pros, and I wasn't too thrilled with Porta Pro 2s).

If you did purchase the Sony EX71s, you will want to let them burn-in or let them run about 200 or odd hours or so before they reach their final sound signature. Before then, you may not like the sound they are known for (really sharp and screech trebles and bad bass).

What do you think about Grado? The SR60 I have now should be less than $70. I really enjoy the sound but the open-chamber design lets some noise in - and also some music out.

I may also switch to a new one after hearing your recommendations.

With the release of the Sennheiser MX-550s I wouldn't consider the older MX-500s as the newer ones are better in every way

I haden't even seen them, but after looking around, the mx450's are available for £14 (check dealtime)!! Seems like a bargain to me! The mx-550's are about £20.

My Grado SR-80's go surprisingly loud even with Sony MDP's and have a lovely bright balance. They leak sound like anything, so IMO are not really suitable for confined spaces on the move. I like to have a bit of choice for portable earphones/headphones and I find that Senn MX500 and 550's, PX200, Sony EX71, Shure E2c all fit my bill admirably depending on mood and music...

The MX550s are much, much worse than the MX500/400s. These phones already lack bass. The 550s have nearly none at all. =/

For the budget, check out E2cs if you have a DAP with a good parametric EQ.

I'm about to buy some Sennheiser PX100s, I've got a friend who has them, they're (the PX100s) crazy, powerful and MAD!

I recommend them!

Set u back $AU97 @ JB-HIFI

*i think they're one of the best streetstyle sennheisers* smile.gif

I've just recently picked up a pair of MX350s as I didn't have any small 'phones (except for the stock'buds) yet (only my bigger HD497 sennheiser for home listening) and they were only €9.90

they still need a bit more burn-in, but after a very flat sounding first 20odd hours, they start to show a lot more trebbles and (?!?) quite some bass (even thinking of eq'ing them down a bit!!)...

For the very low price these things come by: "not bad at all" and definitely a (big) step up fom the stockrubble provided by Sony.

So for anyone who comes by these or the MX450s at a low price... just get 'em! Even if they won't be your all-time favorites (and I presume they won't), they will always be better than the stock'buds!

I've got a friend hu got a iRiver H10 (5gb, colour screen, FM and other cool stuff), iRiver normally supplies Sennheisers, my best guess is that they're MX series ear-phones, i find that they do a reasonable job. If ur budget concious then get em'. But if u want quality, do what i did, get some MDRE-888s
