hamoperator
I just got a new computer up and running and reinstalled v 2.0. There is a 2.3 update available. Will I lose any functionality or gain anything valuable by going to it?Ditto for version 3. It looks like V 3 does not support ripping directly from CD to MD. Is that the case? Thanks in advance.TomMZ-NF610
dex Otaku
The major differences as I understand them are that:* 2.3 and newer are far more stable* [though this doesn't apply to netMD users] Hi-MD uploads aren't botched regularly* 3.0 and newer have far better playlist creation tools* many slight interface differences between 2.x and 3.x [2.0 -> 2.3 isn't that big a difference]* 2.3 and newer recognise devices faster when they're connected [people have reported this, though my experience is actually the opposite; 3.x is slower at recognising my Hi-MD than any of the 2.x series were]* minor codec improvements with each revision [2.1 -> 2.3 has been reported by several as noticeably improved, though I can't tell any difference with LP2; to me it still sounds like absolute poop with 90% of the content I've throw at it]Ripping directly from CD to MD is done by Simple Burner, not SonicStage. As a netMD user, the things you're likely to gain are added [though not perfect] stability, and a slight improvement in the LP2 codec [see above]. hamoperator
Thanks. My major worries came from the following form the Sony website:"The following features of previous versions are not available in SonicStage® software Ver 3.0: EQ (equalizer), Effect (vocal canceller), Visualizer, encoding (ripping) CDs in WMA or OpenMG Audio PCM format, ripping CDs directly to connected portable devices, CD back-up function, and Analyzer Display (level meter, spectrum, waveform)."Thanks. I'll try 3 and see what happens. I sometimes use Nero to burn image files for transfer to MD with Simple Burner in addition to Sonic Stage.I also use Sony Sound Forge which has an export hook into Net MD, so I didn't want to disturb that as well.T Edited April 21, 2005 by hamoperator
atrain
won't upset sound forge i can tell you that. simple burner 2 hosted here at mdcf does the cd->md directly & is a small download.
Syrius
I can confirm that you can Rip/import a CD on Wav format into SS. Either it's a mistranslation, or it means you just can't rip it into OMG-encrypted Wav format. (This is done realtime during transfer, IIRC.)
