mmp64
I finally couldn't stand seeing "MP3 Playback" as part of the description of the MDS-JE480 deck on Sony's site - so I emailed them on it. http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP....TabName=feature(Click on the "Specifications" tab)This was their reply:"The MDS-JE480 Sony Minidisk player/recorder is capable of playing back MP3s that are stored on Minidisks. Hence this feature is specified in the web page for the MDS-JE480 Sony Minidisk player/recorder. "My reply was that Minidiscs of that era, i.e., NetMDs, are not capable of storing MP3s and must first convert them to ATRAC - something which can only be done via SonicStage on a PC. I'm not crazy, am I? Edited April 22, 2005 by mmp64

I'm not crazy, am I?←No, You're not. Not only is Sony so bloated that they can't communicate the correct info of their products to the right people in their organization,. but those people don't even bother to research the question (obviously based on the response you got). Whoever it was hat replied to you just simply shot back the quickest and easiest response.NOT good PR!!
zerodB
They can't even spell the name of their own product (MiniDisc) correctly.

mmp64
I smell outsourcing.←Yeah, you're probably right. Come to think of it - I can't remember the last time their tech support got something right. These are the same people who said it was "not posssible" to play tracks shuffled by genre on the NW-HD1. atrain
support not playback. that is the term used for mp3 conversion for many md & nw units. if you check the packaging of the netmds in your sig they would say the same thing.the major issue with the je480 is that it requires a port to connect to the pc that is not supplied & has been discontinued worldwide anyhow. so buying this deck would only be useful as a plackback device or to record in real time. How so, do you mean the DPC thing? or is it like what some old decks had ... pc controllable playback/pause, etc.

I hadn't noticed how they added that word in this response. Their previous responses, and the web site, said "MP3 Playback."

bug80
According to Sonystyle, the RH910 still offers autofocus and flash! Wow! That's cool! Flash during playback, that is so sixties! But what does it focus on?Sony: the company with great technology and great noobs that have to sell it.
Top Cat
Interesting to note - being on recording site I was asked for a spare MD. I popped one I thought was blank in their JE480 and it showed 2 tracks on the disc, something like 323 minutes. JE480 refused to erase the disc (we didn't try to play, were in a hurry.) Apparently the MD was an 80 min MD in Hi-MD format full of MP3 tracks...
