Well, I can say that the RM-MC55ELK and the RM-MC33EL can control almost all of my NW-HD3 functions, but the display won't work.

Both remotes work fully with my MD MZ-N505R.

I'm waiting for an RM-MC40ELK and an RM-MC35ELK that I bought on e-bay to arrive.

remote collecting anyone? :)

In all honesty, there really is no point using any other remote than the rm-mc40elk with the hd5. The whole point of having a remote is so that the unit can stay in your pocket, with any other remote, you have to pick what you are going to listen to via the unit, The rm-mc40elk does everything, I;d say its well worth the extra money.

you cant SKIP to another playlist. You have to press the scroll wheel on the remote, the menu comes up, and you choose a playlist, The menu looks like this:

Artist

Genre

Album

Initial

Playlist

You scroll down till you are on playlist, click the scroll wheel again, and then scroll down till you find the playlist you want.

p.s i have an rm-mc11el and an rm-mc3el, they are a waste of time next to the 40elk, when using the hd5.

Both the RM-MC55ELK and the RM-MC33EL can skip to the next playlist using the GROUP buttons. While I cannot change the kind of playlist (artist, genre, album, etc.) as a result of not having anything displayed, the group buttons will obey the current mode and skip to the next album, or group, or genre, or whatever.

According to sony only Sony RM-MC40ELK Universal remote will work fully with Nw-hd1/3/5 .As others have already tried different remotes but they r able to use only few functions only .But i`m hopeful that i will get one in few months .

they can list them as compitble all they like, its still shit to use them with any nw-hd series mp3/atrac player. That is fact. The rm-mc40elk is all that is worth talking about when it comes to remotes to use with the hd5. If you dont have the money for it, and are happy to only use next track, previous track, etc, then fine. You wouldnt dream of it you actually tried the 40elk.

As I said on my first post, I bought both the rm-mc40elk (I'll refer to the remotes by number only from now on, since it is the main change) and the 35 on e-bay. The 35 will probably arrive first.

It is a pity that the 55 won't display anything with my hd3, as I prefer its ergonomics to that of the 40.

And my point is, no matter which one is better, they *all* should work, being *universal* remotes. Why does the display of the 40 and 35 work when the others won't, even if they work with *older* equipment? The 55 is the latest model, and won't display anything on the hd3, but works like a charm with my MD, a very old model (N505).

Since my 40 haven't arrived yet, I can't comment on its functions, but it seems to me that the 55 does have more functions, including a search button...
