Hi

I have recently purchased a NW-E407 net walkman. when I first installed sonicstage 3.0 and ran it my PC crashed and restarted. I contacted Sony UK who suggested that I update the software to ver 3.1 which I did, unfortunately this didn't solve the problem and now everytime start Sonicstage my system restarts.

I have contacted Sony UK since only to be told that it must be my system configuration and a hardware clash. I have since reformatted the hard drive 3 times, tried 2 different sound cards all with the same result. I have even tried installing the software on a fresh window install with nothing else installed, still it crashes. I purchased the E407 because I already have a netmd and hope to use the cd's I've already recorded (ATRAC3) on my new player. As far as sony are concerned I've now got to replace my entire system just to get sonicstage to run.

I cannot take the player back because the shop tested it and as far as there concerned it isn't faulty

Hope some can help

Could you also provide information regarding the Operating system, version of DirectX and Video Card drivers currently employed by your system?

For your information, SonicStage is known to have conflicts with later version of NVIDIA drivers. For example, the NVIDIA v.66.93 driver is known to crash SonicStage; thus, you may need to downgrade it to previous versions like v.61.77.

Hi

My operating system is Windows XP Pro with SP1

Video Driver  ver 71.89

Soundcard driver ver 6.09

Direct X ver 9.0c

Hope this helps

First, you will need to upgrade your WinXP Pro to SP2.

If the problem still persists, then you will need to downgrade your NVIDIA Video Driver to a prior version. As I have indicated in the preceding post, newer NVIDIA drivers are known to crash SonicStage; thus, you may need to downgrade it to previous versions like v.61.77.

Hi

I installed SP2 after it first came out and it caused all kinds of problems with other software I was running so I'm reluctant to install it again. I an currently downloading

Ver 56.55 Nvidia drivers and will try those first

Thanks

I installed Nvidia driver 56.55 reinstalled sonicstage 3 and still it crashes.

Sony have said that the problem is with my system, but I'm not so sure as every other type of software runs with no problem including Musicmatch and iTunes so I guess that Sonys software must be poor. I will try the full install of version 3.1 but I don't hold out much hope. So it look like my NW-E407 will have to sit in the draw gathering dust, not that Sony are bothered as they've had my £130.

just out of inerest have you read the faqs we've set up here? sp2 jet & dx9 are amongst our prerequisites. sadly at this forum we must have a significantly higher tech support success figure than any of sony's helpdesks worldwide.

I had problems running Sony Vegas & Photoshop.

Also Sony said when I contacted them that there were known problems with Sonicstage and SP2 and they advised me not to install it

As atrain indicates, you really need to upgrade to SP2 for SonicStage 3.1 to run properly. However, since you are still reluctant to update to SP2 try the MS04-032 Security Update for Windows. This is a fix for the "omgjbox.exe" issue but I hope it will rectify your problem.

Again, please do review the FAQ section accordingly.

Hi

Problem sorted I took the plunge and reinstalled SP2 and installed SS3.1, Guess What??? No Crashes. only a slight problem though. After I've run SS I can't shut my PC down I get a message saying there is an error with DWWIN.EXE and I can only shutdown using the reset button. It appears that SS is still running in the back ground even though I have closed it down. Any Ideas!!!

Thanks for everyones help to sort this out

  • 2 weeks later...

I am having major problems with my system crashing when I use Sonicstage 3.1. I have Windows XP and SP2. I have tried removing all programs and reinstalling everything. I've done windows update and tried the updates and patches from Sony, but nothing works. I am so frustrated. Any tips on what to try? I read the threadabout the NVIDIA, but I'm not sure how to get to that on my computer to try to downgrade. Any help would be nice.

Thanks
