gmvasco
HiI don't have net at home, so I donwloaded everything to my pen drive (in instalments):-Win XP service pack 2 from microsoft-9.something wmv codecs and windows media player 10 from microsoft-your sonicstage 3.1 beta installer from hereI have an AMD Athlon 700 with 370 Mb RAM (runs everything smoothly, no crapware to bugger. I just use 6 or 7 apps and everything is in a clean install of win XP)Everything works ok up untill the moment when I try to transfer stuff from my MD to my computer. The only feature I really wanted. I don't want anything else. Just digital tranfer FROM MD. I don't want to tranfer TO MD. Just FROM.I click on the little arrow to the left, it starts transfering (or so it says) and after a couple of seconds it reaches 35%. Then it hangs and says "unable to tranfer" I click OK and get frustated. I don't think it actually tranfers anything though it says 35% when it hangs. There is no time to tranfer stuff, and besides it dooesn't even care if it's a 20 second file or a 10 minutes file. It lets me rename stuff though. I do have access to the MD from the computer. I just can't tranfer to the computer.I've tried those other transfer options like LP2 or LP4 or SP, you name it, I tried. If anyone has a clue about this, I'dd much apreciate it if you shared. Thanks. The Low Volta
stupid question perhaps... but do you own a MD (everything before Hi-MD appeared) or a Hi-MD (MZNH-600D,600,700,800,900,1 or MZRH-710,910,10)?as MD (even with SS3.1, which does not affect this at all) will not transfer digitally to PC, only realtime recording is possible with MD as far as I know(feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)
Christopher
Yes, what unit do you have?
The Low Volta
just saw in the title of the thread "NetMD 707" so I guess we found the problem...try searching these forums for ways to record your MD's to a pc with the least quality loss, there are quite a few threads covering thisgood luck and welcome to the forums by the wayp.s.:if you're serious about recording and don't wanna upload the realtime way, go on the hunt for a Hi-MD, sometimes you can find 1st gen models quite cheap and the 2nd gen really aren't THAT expensive actually... but still, good luck, hope you find your way about MD

gmvasco
HiThanks for your replies. It is a NetMD 707 as you saw. So, am I to gather that only real time recording in the computer is possible, or SP recordings? I didn't quite understand that bit.Just to clear things up:I have some LP2 and LP4 rewcordings as well as SP ones in the same minidisc that I'dd like to tranfer.I can change the name in my tracks from sonicstage 3.1, but I can't tranfer them to the PC. The only reason why I installed sonicstage 3.1 was to get digital transfer. Otherwise I'll have to do it the old fashioned way, analogue sound (line out from MD to line in in soundboard) and that stuff. So nobody got this error at 35% saying "unable to transfer"?CheersGmvasco

I didn't quite understand that bit.as I already said: The Low Volta said: MD (even with SS3.1, which does not affect this at all) will not transfer digitally to PC, only realtime recording is possible with MD so for analogue (with a microphone) recordings made with your MD, you can only record them in realtime on your PC (analogue, by line out on MD to line in on PC and recording in a program like the free audacity, perhaps even digitally - even though I doubt it - by connecting the MD to your PC with USB and playing the tracks through SS if this is possible and capturing the signal with Totalrecorder...but read about these methods here or search for them as I already suggested earlier) Quote I can change the name in my tracks from sonicstage 3.1, but I can't tranfer them to the PC. yes, 'cause the first is from PC->MD which is supported, and the second is MD->PC which isn't Quote The only reason why I installed sonicstage 3.1 was to get digital transfer.please try to understand that the software will and can NOT enable this... it is a limitation of the Net-MD hardware... and now you understand why a lot of recording-afficionados transferred to Hi-MD. But before you ask... no, not even a new Hi-MD will allow you to transfer those recordings you already made, through USB, faster than realtime to a PC... they were recorded in MD-mode, and that will always be limited to realtime transfer. Quote So nobody got this error at 35% saying "unable to transfer"?←perhaps that others who were trying to upload recordings with a NetMD got them, but it is also possible that they have read the software FAQs and quickly understood that this is very logical behaviour of the software, as their hardware just wasn't made for this kind of transferringhope to have helped,Volta
gmvasco
Volta, thanks for the reply. You really help me a lot. Now I understand my situation prefectly.Kudos for the perfectly clear, newbie-safe reply.Somehow, after reading all the stuff I did before, I was under the impression that SS v3+ would transfer from MD to PC on any USB model. I bet there are some posts saying that NetMD won't work this way, but I didn't catch any before.Anyway big thanks to all for putting up with us newbies.CheersGmvasco
