willykyu
Just to say that the Sonicstage upgrade has been added today through VAIO UPDATE (Euro) program, for the ones using a vaio of course. It's been a long long time there hadn't been an upgrade for SS for Vaio. The last one available was 2.3 'till now. I can't say right now if it is 3.3, but the auto update is 70 megs and is called "Sonic satge update program".I'm installing it. I'll tell you if there's something special, like new vaio-only features, or bug fixes (Vaio zone full compatibility for example). We still have to wait for a patch.

Well, one thing though: This time, the assistance of VAIO (E-Support) won't have any excuses not to help us with the never ending lists of issues and incompatibility between sony softs. Last times they said they couldn't provide help as they did'nt give SS.3.x in download section...but only up to 2.3!!!Ishiyoshi San, do you really beleive in this "patch"? they just should make a better Do Vaio/Vaio Zone, with plenty of updates right?Have you a good day everybody. But, I now feel that Sony will not release a patch specifically just to rectify the problem we've encountered with VAIO Zone - can't playback ATRAC3/ATRAC3plus files converted with no copy protection. However, it is important to note that the issue is not a SonicStage problem but with VAIO Media and VAIO Zone instead. Hence, I think it is possible that the problem may be resolved by upgrading your current VAIO Media to version 5.0 and VAIO Zone to version 1.5. willykyu
Unfortunately, Vaiozone 5.0 isn't available for my vaio. It's a VGN-A217S, and as told by e-support service, there is no other version than the 2.5 one. The new A vaio series have the latest version pre-installed... I don't understand SONY's policy! Why every same program on every platform hasn't the same updates???!!! I just don't get it.It's just too bad, VAIO ZONE is an atrac player too! it is UNICODE!! it shares the sonicstage library, which isn't unicode...but vaio zone lacks of cool control stuff, and that's just a shame! you can control it with the very cool remote, but there is no shuffle for example, and no intellignet search fonction (you have to scroll through the entire alphabetical list to get to the genre search... silly!).It doesn't look like there's gonna be any serious evolution on SONY softwares, I mean the Vaio ones. But you know what, if SS was unicode, it would be the start of a new life!!! so I pray everyday that Connect player IS unicode AT LAST. Itune is! Vaio Zone is! so, what's ahppening to Sony's mind??? the bugy and inconvenient applocale and register changes is NOT a cool solution... and makes the files compatibility between Vaiozone and Sonicstage worse! If Sony keeps on ignoring this, I think I'm gonna start making a petition!!! Edited November 5, 2005 by willykyu

The latest Do VAIO/VAIO Zone as I mentioned in the preceding posts is version 1.5 in Japanese. The latest available English version for VAIO Zone is 1.4.06.05190. Similarly, the latest available VAIO Media is version 5.0 (in Japanese) and I believe the latest available English version is 4.2. The only software mentioned above that I have yet to upgrade on my VAIO PCG-TR5B is Do VAIO/VAIO Zone 1.5 (currently have VAIO Zone 1.4.06.05190). I suspect that we may able to playback non DRM ATRAC tunes with this upgrade.
maxthrusters
I just bought a VAIO notebook recently. I'm not happy that VAIO Zone won't handle non-DRM ATRAC files. There's no way I want to re-rip all of my CDs yet again. Latest version of SonicStage for my VAIO is only 3.3 too, although I installed 3.4 anyway. No new version of Zone is available it seems for me.VGNFS745PH

willykyu
Vaio zone (euro name) or Do Vaio (japan and US name) is the multimedia reader/recorder for recent VAIO PCs. You can watch TV, record programs, listen to the music from atrac/mp3 or CD, watch your pics and read Videos DVDs.You can control the program with the special sony VAIO remote. This application is good, but there are numerous features missing, and the same old issues still remain today, whereas sonicstage has been improving constantly for a year or two now.Vaio Zone/do Vaio still doesn't read non protected ATRAC and can't rip CDs with the new atrac bitrates from Sonis Stage 3.3 and 3.4. The search function is very, very limited, and could be divided in several steps instead of one unique long list (alphabetical, then by genres and by recently added and not listened yet). That's to bad, for it is quite cool to control your music from your bed with the remote, and the program is fully unicode with nice letters. It is time for SONY to regroup all the software sections from VAIO to Walkmans, because all of this half badly/well made softwares are pissing me and probably a lot of consumers off!!!!Just compare Vaio Zone/Sonicstage/connect player softwares, and cry! who could think they're all from SONY?And of course Vaio Zone/Do Vaio updates are as rare as ever! once a year I would say.... terrible, really. Sometimes I'm just dreaming to work for them and fix every little thing, adding more features and correct as oddities as EVER!
Ishiyoshi
For those interested, here's a comprehensive introduction on what VAIO Zone is all about: - click here -By the way, the latest Do VAIO is 1.6; I have yet to upgrade my copy but I sure hope that it will enable playback of non-DRM ATRAC3plus tunes. It seems to me that the English version of VAIO Zone will remain at 1.4 for awhile as VAIO Zone has been "sort of-kinda" replaced by MCE in the North American market. Let's hope that Sony Europe will continue to adopt VAIO Zone for most of its VAIO units.
JSP62
Ah, I see.It is similiar to the Windows Media Center, but Sony's rendition. It looks very nice and sleek. Thanks for the link and info. Edited February 28, 2006 by JSP62
