heskenic
Hi All,I've got a HIMD portable player and am wanting to record to the old atrac format to play in a car headunit. Does anyone know if this is possible? If so could you let me know that would be fantastic.Cheers,Nick (Oz)
A440
Depends on the Hi-MD model you have and what kind of recording you plan to do. MZ-NH** models, the first generation Hi-MD, will record to SP, LP2 or LP4 through Line-in or Mic-In or with music transferred through SonicStage. MZ-RH models, the second-generation Hi-MD, will NOT record to the old MD modes directly, but you can transfer music to the disc in the old MD modes through SonicStage. Is your car MD player an SP-only unit or an MDLP unit? heskenic
I've got the MZ-NH900 model. The MD car player is SP. I'm sure i've tried the SP mode to record b4. So your saying i should be able to transfer tracks from sonicstage to a MD SP disc and it should work in the car?Cheers,
dex Otaku
SonicStage can write in pseudo-SP, that is, LP2 padded out to look like SP. It has the same sound quality as SS's LP2, since it is SS's LP2. If you don't take issue with SS's implementation of LP2, this is a reasonable option for you.You can also record direct to real SP mode on your NH900 via the analogue [3.5mm] or optical in [same jack, different cable obviously]. This is true Type-R SP mode, but recordings must be made in real time. To get your recorder to record in true SP mode, put a blank MD60, MD74, or MD80 in the unit, and switch it using the menu system to "NetMD" mode [look up the exact location of this in your manual]. You can achieve the same results with a Hi-MD reformatted MD by switching to NetMD mode and doing an "erase all" in the edit menu.In NetMD mode, NH-series HiMDs act exactly as any other recording NetMD or MDLP-capable unit would. Guest hair old
Wait, are you guys serious????THE NEW GENERATION OF HI-MD RECORDERS DO NOT SUPPORT OLD SP OR LP2/LP4 REAL TIME RECORDING???????????WHO IS THE COMPLETE BRAINLESS IDIOT AT SONY WHO WOULD RENDER THEIR OWN PRODUCTS OBSOLETE AND COMPLETELY TURN THEIR BACK ON 13 YEARS OF LOYAL MD CONSUMERS????????WHY ON EARTH WOULD THESE IDIOTS TAKE THIS OPTION AWAY?????? WHY WOULD THEY "NOT" SUPPORT SOMETHING SO EASY TO IMPLEMENT??????That's it, final straw......MD IS DEAD.
Embio
just a thought thats a bit unrelated....Assuming the PC you have Sonicstage installed on has an optical out, would it be possible to:1, Connect a Hi-MD recorder via USB, play it through Sonicstage2, Record (via digital out....) on a NET MD or Hi-MD recorder?course, it would'nt work for an album with gapless playback because sonicstage sucks..... If I cannot edit existing recordings using new hardware, then there's not much point in upgrading to the new hardware, is there? I've recently bought an MDLP deck for my hifi; I'm thinking about getting a pro-MDLP deck (Tacscan or other) to do digital MD copying to backup some original audio recordings, but no plans to jump on to HiMD if this is what is considered "progress" in the subsequent hardware generations of the format.
