NW-A609?

Question

It's a pretty obvious numbering issue, can't believe n o one caught on to this yet. The 512 MB version is called NW-A605. The 1GB is called NW-A607. So using simple math skills learned in elementry school the 2GB version should be called the NW-A609...but it's not. It was called the NW-A608 instead. Now why? Simple. To leave room for a 4GB NW-A609 to compete with the 4GB iPod Nano. With the 2GB A608 just announced on Sony Canada's website running at the exact same pricepoint as the 2GB Nano for 249.99CDN, it would make sense if Sony releases a 4GB NW-A609 to compete with the 4GB Nano at hopefully the exact same price at 299.99 CDN.

Ok, although your idea is a pretty good one and it would make sense for Sony to follow that route, they won't.

First off, the new NW-A1000 was supposed to compete against the Ipod mini, with 4 and 6 gig sizes. But as we know apple killed the mini and added the nano. btw mini cost from 249.99 to 299.99 CAN.

The NW-A1000 was supposed to have many advantages over the mini, battery life and memory size (depending on model), buut now it has both against the nano.

The 2gig NW-A608 goes directly after the ipod mini 2 gig model which funny enough is the same price, 249.99 CAN.

If a 4 gig NW-A609 arrived it would either eat into A1000 sales or not sell well at all.

Last but not least, assuming Sony gets its flash memory from the same suppliers as all the other companies, 4 gig flash memory availability now is limited to 2 companies, sandisk and apple. Appled "whored" up as much as 4gig flash as they could for their nano (from samsung) and sandisk being a producer of flash memory most likely allocated some for itself.

Enter the SanDisk Sansa m200.

We'll see what happens this Xmas season with sales. Perhaps sony canada will intro the A1200.

If U think deeply than u will understand why sony doesn`t believe in shipping huge spaces in their network walkman b`coz they think their codec "i.e atrac 48kpbs" is better than apple i-tunes ie ACC 128kpbs.Apple claims that about 1000 songs can be transfered to their 4GB NANO (I-PODs) (for a 4min per song) & on the other hand sony claims about 1380 songs can be transfered in their network walkman nw-a608(for a 4min per song)).Both companies just want to fit songs in their player whether voice quality of THESE songs is good or not ..This what i think that`s why sony hasn`t put a 4gb network walkman in the market. But remmember there is FM shipped with nw-a608 which compansates for that space

DIFFERENT COMPANIES DIFFERENT STRATEGIES TO ATTRACT CONSUMERS ..........

any comments.........
