True SP will always have a spot in my heart. Regardless if I'm using Hi-MD, I end up recording in true SP, through the optical input, even tracks I uploaded earlier to my CPU using the NHF 800. tongue.giflaugh.gif

I could use Hi-SP, but I want to use my discs on my JVC unit with it's teeth-rattling bass settings. Besides, I kinda "need" those extra 36 Kbps that SP has VS Hi-SP.

It sounds great, it doesn't eat battery as fast as PCM, and I can fit 80 mins of it on a regular MD. I love it.

Am I crazy, or do I just love old style MD too much?

Atrac3Plus is better tuned for low bitrates (in order to compete in the market). Atrac 3 is better tuned for the original bitrate: SP. So the difference isn't in the extra bps, but in the codec. For high-end, good-ol SP is just better.

SP uses Atrac, not Atrac3. How do you know Atrac3+ has only been tuned for low, not for high bitrates? How do you know 'Sp is just better'? Can You hear a difference at such a high bitrate?

If it works for you, why question it?

Oops, sorry, your right.

How do you know Atrac3+ has only been tuned for low, not for high bitrates?

Yeps, and that says something about the codec, not the bitrate.
