Unable To Edit Track Titles On Rh10

Hi, I just received my MZ-RH10. I uploaded some tracks (MP3&AC3) to the MD using the SonicStage software.

But I just can't edit track titles using the recorder. First I select a track, then I go to menu > Edit > Title Input > Track. And when I press enter, I get the message "CANNOT EDIT".

Why is this happening? This happens to both mp3 and ac3 files. The 1GB Hi-MD disc is not locked either. I searched the forum for answers, I read the manual over and over, but I just can't get this working. Am I doing something wrong?

Using SS to edit titles work fine, but sometime I want to use the MD to edit track titles, this really bugs me. Any help appreciated.

I think if you've UPLOADED tracks on to the MD from SS you can only do limited editing facilities on the MD unit itself (Stupid DRM / SS again). Track editing is restricted --but not Disk titling.

I think you might not even be able to ERASE the disk either on the unit.

You'll have to do your editing / erasing t on the PC I'm afraid.

If you've uploaded viaripping a CD directly using MD simple burner then editing probably will work although I haven't tried this.

A bummer --but the whole DRM issue is just getting rediculous.

Imagine BMW saying you can only use this Car on these streets on Mondays, Have to fill up at Garage X and after you've switched the Engine on more than 5 times you have to get a NEW engine. - BMW would be in court so fast that the wheels wouldn't ewven have time to touch the ground assuming anybody would buy a vehicle subject to those restrictions.

The music biz needs to get its act together --most piracy (and it's a HUGE business) is organised in Far, East, China, Bangladesh, and Russia.

Geeky Teens (and pre-teens) messing around with "illegal" downloads might have media attention but they are NOT the probs --and the strange thing is with all this B/S high end professional recording gear is exempt from all this stuff in the first place.

Cheers

welcome to MDCF Mortal,

just to keep the discussion clear:

- PC->MD=downloading (as in the download only D-models like NH600D)

- MD->PC=uploading (since Hi-MD possible through USB for recordings)

- source->line in or mic in or optical in=recording

ok, this restriction and DRM as a whole is questionable at least, but titling on the recorder is very slow, kinda difficult (no keyboard) and IMHO only useful to type in the hour/date after recording something with any other recorder than NH1 (which has timestamp)... so I'm afraid you'll have to live with Sony's quirks, but I don't think this specific problem is really serious...

Thanks for your replies 1kyle and The Low Volta. I'm glad it's not a bug in the MD unit. But I saw a topic in the News forum about the rh10 titling error, but I couldn't even get to that point of titling my tracks. That makes me wonder...

But I just found out that you CAN edit titles on the old discs of 60/74/80 minutes. But titeling on 1GB Hi-MD discs is disabled on my rh10 for some reason.

If you've uploaded viaripping a CD directly using MD simple burner then editing probably will work although I haven't tried this.
Titeling is also not possible when I use the MD simple burner :(

But it's not really a serious problem, but I DID pay €250 for this thing you know. But I still think it's rediculous, I don't see why this is necessary..

- MD->PC=uploading (since Hi-MD possible through USB but only of analoguely recorded tracks)

Hello,

sorry to correct you here, but digital line-in recordings CAN be uploaded to PC as well, although they are not exportable to .WAV by SonicStage 3.x or the Wave Conversion Tool afterwards.

Cheers - Killroy.

indeed Killroy, I already corrected my mistake in another thread (I never use optical in myself as I don't have any machine with optical out, so that possibility escaped me) and have also edited my post above now...

as Veezhun also pointed out, you can convert these digital reocrdings to wav by using Marc's Hi-MD-renderer (see this thread)

greetings, Volta
