greenmachine
Unfortunately small and little self noise are contradictions. alex_jes
well,it's gonna be compromise between noise and money;are there any other brands / mpdels apart from those on that page?i need one that doesn't need phantom power....alex
A440
Look at Schoeps microphones, professional quality with low self-noise. Also look at Audio-Technica. Also depends on what you mean by small: stealth-sized (1/4-inch diameter) or handheld or.....?

greenmachine
The search function is always an option. There must be several discussions about these popular beginner's microphones in the live recording forum.
A440
Here is a noise test of similar Sony mics. You won't like the results.http://infos.0db.net/micros/compare/indexe.php3Specs on both mics are 100-15K Hz, Specs on your MD are 20-20K Hz. So the mic will not pick up the bottom two octaves of bass or have the brightest high frequencies. ECM-719 is directional, which can be useful (trying to isolate speech in a room) or not (trying to record while the mic is moving. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...list&sku=283490ECM-MS907 is a mid-side mic, which can be useful if you want to mix down to mono. http://shopper.cnet.com/Sony_ECM_MS907/401...rderby=90&sort=But in your price range you can do better than Sony. Look at www.soundprofessionals.com, www.microphonemadness.com, or if you're in Europe www.soundman.deMore on mic specs here:http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...indpost&p=57207
