kimpe
Hi R,Sorry to hear you're having problems. It sounds just by your discription that the drive mechanism is jammed. That's the reason your not seeing any disk data. The disk needs to spin in order for the player to read the disk, (of course). Check to see if there is any foreign objects lodged inside. The only other recourse is to send it to a authorized repair center. Could be cheaper just to buy a new one.
R.Soul
hi kimpe, thanks for the reply, your effort is much appreciated (especially gettin up at 5AM!) lol, but, there is nuthin jammed inside the disc or the minidisc player, and wen i take the disc out it spins, so i dont think thats the case, it all started after i charged it and wanted to try my minidiscs and kept on switching between them, but i didnt see if the first minidisc worked or not...regards, R.SoulP.S. the inside of the minidisc seems [pretty dusty, do u think i shud clean it, i need good advice coz i break it further, thanks alot for your effort) Edited June 24, 2005 by R.Soul

kimpe
You're welcome R. If the insides are dirty then get a can of that compressed air they use for cleaning computers. Try the cheap fixes first!

The Low Volta
You're welcome R. If the insides are dirty then get a can of that compressed air they use for cleaning computers. Try the cheap fixes first! use the balloon (puff) thingy for cleaning photo lenses! and not compressed air...there are too much brittle parts inside your MD you don't wanna freeze...'cause then a cheap fix quickly becomes a very expensive fault...VoltaPS: R.Soul, please read and post according to the rules as atrain asked
kimpe
Just forget it then and take it to a authorized service center. Let them wreck it.

The Low Volta
I am following the rules, can u please tell me wot im actully doin rong so i no, thanksit's not only about posting system specs, but if you would read the rules really good you would find this:When making a support request, be as thorough with your information as possible. The more you tell us, the more likely a solution can be found.your description:its just started to make this funny sound (not through the ear phones, you can actually here it coming out of the minidisc) and wen i press play it just shows the battery info and does nothing, i try connecting it to the pc and nothing happens- just started? after a couple of posts you sayit all started after i charged it and wanted to try my minidiscs and kept on switching between them, but i didnt see if the first minidisc worked or not so you've been rapidly changing discs (so rapid that you haven't even noticed whether the first one was read or not) if I understand this correctly, that is something else than "just"- this funny sound? that is the kind of clear description that helps...does it sound like it's jammed, somethings scraping, a beep, ??? try to give some description- just shows the battery info? and what does it say? full, empty, in between (where?),...? nothing else? tried to remove the battery and inserting it again? is the battery inserted in the right direction... have you tried anything?- after a while you state the inside is quite dusty...not a very clear description, but still can we presume you never looked into the unit before as you only mentioned this after a while?- you started this thread as a poll named "please help me!" (without further info) that actually was about "whether SS s*cked" or not... not really relevant as your's is probably a hardware fault and definitely not the way to induce ppl to helpso sorry if we seem a bit rude... but you could have handled this plea for help a bit more tactful and with a bit more info for us to work from...greetings, Volta
R.Soul
sorry, but wen i was doin the topic, i made a poll by mistake, i dnt no wot happened, please forgive me,m and u dnt sound rude as i like people to point out my mistakes so thanks alot back to subjectit sounds jarred like clicky sorta and it also makes a bubbly noise, u cnt really explain it, and i think it is coz of rapid disc change as i was trying a few discs out to see wot was on them but nothing was playing, i thought they were empty, but then i went back to the first disc and that wudnt play:(, is there ne way i cn sort this out?...feel free to add my msn address and contact me from there:D nuthead7@hotmail.comthanks, mr soul Edited June 24, 2005 by R.Soul
The Low Volta
it sounds jarred like clicky sorta and it also makes a bubbly noise, u cnt really explain it, and i think it is coz of rapid disc change as i was trying a few discs out to see wot was on them but nothing was playing, i thought they were empty, but then i went back to the first disc and that wudnt play:(, is there ne way i cn sort this out?...hm...the only thing I can think of it that the rapid changes have disturbed/bended/blocked something essential inside (like the reading block or something)...you already said there was no foreign object lodged in there, but perhaps something from within the MD itself blocks either the rotation motor or the reading blockbest thing you could do was to let someone look at it that knows what a healthy MD looks like from the inside (perhaps at a service centre)...- if you still have warranty, don't explain precisely how it happened (the rapid changing bit) but just say that you inserted one disc and this happened... let them repair it on warranty- if you don't have any warranty... make sure you know what a reparation is going to cost you before you agree to let it be repaired 'cause some (actually a lot) of reparations turn out to be almost as axpensive as a new machine sorry I can't be of more assistance (except to ask again if you have checked the real basics: is the battery inserted correctly? hasn't it leaked or something? ...)VoltaPS: I know this isn't really what you're hoping for, but if it turns out you have to ditch this player, nowadays there is (relatively cheap) Hi-MD to upgrade to if you needed to buy a new one
R.Soul
hi thanx for ur message, well, i took a look inside, and either side of the lense there are two black stick (plastic) (i own a sony mz-n710) on the right hand side (looking down at the minidisc) one of the sticks is sticcking out slightly, about 5-20 degrees, im not sure if its ment to be like that, but do u hav a pic of a healthy inside of a sony mz-n710? The Low Volta
do u hav a pic of a healthy inside of a sony mz-n710?no I'm afraid not, you could always goolge-search for it... I only have a NH900 and an old JVC (actually my girlfriend has that one)...you could always take it into a repair centre and let them have a look at it (but as I said, don't agree to have it repaired before they give you a decent estimate of the price, as it might not be worth it)But as this thread hasn't been very succesful, is full of unnecessary (for actually getting somewhere with your player) stuff, you own a Net-MD and this is most likely a hardware problem, I suggest you make a new thread (no poll )in the NetMD/MDLP-section with a very clear post about your problem... put in it:1. the model of player (where you bought it from and whether it's still under warranty) 2. the circumstances: i.e. that you've never actually seen it working and the rapid switching of discs3. the problem: description of the noise and everything else that (doesn't) happen(s)4. the possible cause: something bent inside by switching discs?5. your questions:- does anyone know what the problem could be by this description?- what does the inside of a healthy N710 look like?- what to do/try? or where to take it?hopefully someone in that subforum with more experience on these thing comes forward and helps you out...meanwhile we'll let the mods remove this thread as it hasn't really done much for you and sort of sits in the wrong place (software support)greetings, VoltaR.Soul opened a new thread in the right place so this thread can be trashed
