kpayson
After a long weekend of live recording (through line-in) in PCM mode,my 8 hours of recordings on 6 HiMD Sony Discs have a playback problem. The tracks play and can be ffwd/rew, etc as expected through the middle of each disc. After about 45 min., playback is spotty at best, with the time readout stopping fora few seconds, or even minutes, before play picks up, sometimes accompanied bya loud static burst. This is consistent over 6 HiMD's.This unit is 6 months into it's warranty (extended for 3 years total)but I'd do anything not to have to send this player away.Any ideas?Thanks-
Christopher
Have you tried it with the ac adapter plugged in? What happens when you upload the audio, is it the same on the computer?
kpayson
I have the same problem when it's plugged into the AC adapter.I'm on a Mac so don't use the sonicstage software.I'm afraid to send it back to Sony, as I've heard horror stories about waiting 2-3 months for the unit to be returned and still not repaired. Also, the unit will play regular MD discs fine all the way through. kpayson
I recorded 6 HiMD Sony discs @ PCM mode and every one startsskipping , hissing and just plain stalling out after about the 45th minute(out of 94).The skipping, hissing and stalling is never exactly the same twice.I emailed guySonic who suggested I may have lucked into a bad batch of HiMD Discs.Sure enough, when I play back regular MD's or an older HiMD I boughta few months ago, they play just fine.Any ideas on how to get at least my money back for the 8 Bad Discs I bought?Good thing these sessions were recorded also on ADAT and DAT (mine is the 2nd backup)- KP
Skradgee
Hi kpayson. Try to contact support at the Sony website to see if you can get some money back for your bad discs. I've also got an MZ-NH1 and I've had several (3 or 4) Hi-MD discs go bad on me...all from different batches and different ranges of serial numbers on the back. My experience with Hi-MD discs is that they are not overly reliabe, and it seems that the more a Hi-MD disc gets reused, the less reliable it becomes. It's a good thing you had backups of your recording.
daremo
Does a complete reformat of the disc make it useable again?
