bri
Ok I know you can't upload from a NetMD recorded source via SS...But can I simply get a gold-plated (!) analog wire and play from an old MD player into my Hi-MD via analog again, and then upload THAT version. Is this being stupid regarding quality loss? I would *like* to use my SP MD deck to play directly into the Hi-MD via optical but it's broken atm and I can't afford the repair Any comments? The Low Volta
there is nothing stopping you I guess, but there also is no reason for doing it either (unless you have a very crappy soundcard)so you know you have to introduce an analogue step so why not go directly from old MD/HiMD (whichever sounds clearer) headphone (or if possible line) out into PC and record with audacity... won't sound better or worse but it takes one step lessgreetings, Volta
bri
Good suggestion. Only one slight problem in my case. I'm using my Presario laptop and it has possibly the world's worst soundcard when it comes to recording a line in. I guess this is what you should expect from a laptop! If I was to use any standard would the soundcard be preferable to my original setup? I had ordered a Santa Cruz s/c from my desktop at home but good ol' Dell didn't build it in. Not really willing to buy any new hardware for this...so what's preferable? Are many of today's cheaper desktops fitted with onboard sound for cheapness?
Breepee2
AD/DA convertors on computer sound cards are generally bad. Add that they tend to pick up lot's of computer generated noise, I'd stick to your original plan.

Hopefully the inputs levels and so forth will be roughly equal so little (to no?!) tweaking will be necessary. If there's something I'm missing here please inform, as after doing the few live MDs I own I've decided it's time to backup my vinyl collection! Thanks.
dex Otaku
I'd look at getting a decent stereo USB sound adaptor, myself.

This is a valid solution to recording with a laptop?! Why doesn't everyone have one?!Any particular feature you'd recommend? For instance is a USB2 preferable just for speed or does it somehow affect the quality feed? Thanks.
