Cracking The Rh-910 So I Can Get Louder Sound?

Hi! Just got an rh-910...

pretty good, only a few just some complaints/doubts:

-i hate how SonicStage organizes your music, i´d rather preffer just using my mp3 folders on my HD! any idea on getting the library to be "friendly"?

- a little bit to low sound in it´s max volume.. (buses in Chile are pretty old and make lots of noise so the max volume isn´t just enough!!)

I´ve heard you can crack the units by entering some codes... somebody knows how to do this?

Thanks for the help... wink.gif

Not sure if you'd have the European capped model that would benefit from that volume hack... Using the graphics equaliser really helps bump up the volume on the Sony models. You could (also) try using some more efficient or isolating headphones/earphones. Do a search on these forums (fora?) for some suggestions. I personally prefer the Sennheiser MX350/450/550 range...

Hi!

I'm gonna buying the thing you allready have.

So what can you tell me about the player?

Is it worth obtaining?

Hi Soleil!

Yes, i think it is worth, but it really depends on your needs i think.

Goods:

- storage capacity: for my crappy ears, i really get no quality difference between a 128 mp3 or the 44 atrac3plus, which is the format with the biggest compression and which gives you about 45 hours of music v/s about the 5 hours my old MZ n707, which by the way, was excelent)

- speed transfer: it is really fast the speed it transfers, though the conversion time still a little annoying

- you can usit as a portable storage device for data and it really works with no problems

- the display of the menus and songs info on the lcd screen is really friendly.

-the quality of recordings through the mic its great, and easy to transfer to the computer (just the annoying thing you can transfer it only once, but it turned out being just a detail)

- the USB connection powers up the unit so there is no worry about that.

"Bads"

- battery life: i don´t like using the double AA thing you can attach to the unit, so i just use the gumstick, which gives you about 11 hours of playback. The thing is that i was used to my old MD player, whose single AA battery will last for about 56 hours. That was amazing, and i always think that i would have ratther preffer a little bit bigger unit with that battery life capacity than a thinner one using the gumstick battery. OK, 11 hourse isn´t bad, you always have the alternative of the AA, and, you can buy a gumstick battery with more mAh that will play for more time.

- the back light. I regret sometimes not buying the rh 10, but it was a hundred dollars more.

Thats it, don´t have any technical details, i´m just a "music listener"who wants to take out the best of my MD. I think you should go ahead and just buy it, it is really good.

first of all, as KJ-Palmer already pointed out, it is not certain that your HiMD has a limited volume... normally, this is only on European models (as it is required by our laws)... but if you want to know for sure, just enter service mode and follow the sequence till you get to the item number 0113, but do not change anything yet, just look at the region code that is displayed... if it is not "24", you can improve some thing by hacking I guess...

is it dangerous? yes, in theory it is, cause if you change the wrong settings, you could turn your machine quite useless BUT as long as you do not press 'pause' while in the service mode, normally you should always be able to cancel the operation by removing all power sources (ac-adapter and all batteries)... so if you do something wrong, just do not press pause!

have a good look at the sequence in the link I provided before... enter service mode just to have a look (remember don't press pause while you're in there) and see if you can get to 0113 and check the region code...then just remove all power to stop...

if your region is not "24" and you have done all the previous steps without much dificulty (and without saving anything by pushing pause while in service mode) you should decide if you feel confident enough to do the hack... as long as you follow the procedure exactly as described in the linked thread, there is little that can go wrong... I have hacked my NH900 and I didn't even know at the time there was such a thing as service mode and I know there are many like me...

just remember: if something doesn't look right: DON'T press pause, but remove all power sources and it should be fine

Hope this helps,

Volta

not that 128kbps MP3 is good by any means but man i can't stand the 48kbps Atrac lol you are very lucky to be able to enjoy that because as they say ignorance is bliss, enjoy the loads more music you can put on a disc - just dont do anything to change your opinion about 48kbps lol or you will regret it (as you will never use it again tongue.gif)

Gonzaloif!

Thanx for ur feedback biggrin.gif

That decided me to buy the object cool.gif

And now I need an fm/am tuner remote, that is part of NHF800 set, but I need it as a separate to expand the RH-910's capacity...

Have you any tips for the way I could get it? mellow.gif

The Low Volta

as KJ-Palmer already stated: fm-remotes only work for the models they were intended for (so the NH800 remote only works for the NH800)

R u sure?

According to the information I've read on another forum the remote should work with any appropriate sony device... blink.gif

Was I misinformed? unsure.gif

According to the information I've read on another forum the remote should work with any appropriate sony device...

what you read doesn't conflict with what KJ and I said at all... it will work for any appropriate Sony device: i.e. all NH800's and perhapse even other tuner-MD's which have the same remote port... but it won't work with any non-tuner-MD/HiMD as the remote simply won't fit!

RM-MC36(37)LT -- supplied with the MZ-NF610, MZ-NF810, and MZ-NF520 and D-FJ787. This remote has AM/FM (TV/Weather -- US only) enabled. It is basically a revamped tuner remote with 9 character display. The RM-MC36(37)LT provides access to menu (via display), play modes, and sound mode. Volume control is located to the left of shuttle switch. The stop button and group +/- folder buttons to the right of shuttle switch and the radio on/off function is located next to the LCD. The remote does NOT support backlight. In addition, the tuner remote is ONLY functional with NF610 and NF810 and D-FJ787; cannot work (nor fit) in the remote jacks of other units.

RM-MC39LT -- supplied with MZ-NHF800. The 39LT has the same features as the 37LT, with addition to the Hi-MD input on the LCD.

from this very complete remote overview

and it still holds true for the RM-MC39LT as Syrius told me right here

sorry, but I do think the other board was misinformed (BTW, through a goolge search I could only find a T-Board post stating that the HiMD version of this remote is almost exactly the same as the 37LT NetMD tuner one, except for the HiMD pictogram...so that would confirm the incompatibility with other players for the RM-MC39LT)

hope this cleared things up,

Volta
