Finally just managed to get this update running and first impressions are they've done some major work on the speed of it.

Just imported 25 gig ( 4500 files ) into the library and it took about 10 minutes - a vast improvement on the 2 hours then system crash of the previous version :ol_lol:

The only way i could get it to install the updates was to unistall the previous version , clear out all the stuff in documents and settings and delete out the bunch of registry keys that were left behind before reinstalling the original version from the cd

I just tried it and it won't update.

Ascariss, I don't think if it has anything to do with CDROM version or not. I just installed CP from a CD. AutoUpdate simply sits there in the tray while "Check for Updates" from the CP menu does absolutely nothing.

Then how are people in canada supposed to update CP if it don't do anything? :ol_blankstare: Canada may not be a large market for Sony, but so far the actions by sony haven't impressed me.

I was reading the Support info on the Sony website regarding the Connect software. It says that Connect s/w will not work unless Interent Explorer is the default internet browser.

I use Firefox. i kno i cannot go to www.connect.co.uk in firefox. but can i install it and still use firefox?

Which internet browseres do people here use?

I'm using Firefox too and Connect works no differently to when I have IE set as default. That is to say, that the player operates the same - however, despite the update, I still find with both browsers that the built-in Connect store is sluggish. If I use the scroll bars I have to wait several seconds before the window moves and the links become active again etc.

I have installed CP manually like many of us and cannot use the auto update that is under the 'help' menu. Interesting thought about making sure that IE is the default browser. I will try this tonight.

You def have to use IE6 to view the connect store in Europe, but Firefox will work in for the US store. The choice of (default) browser does not affect the use of Connect store through SS3.3 or CP, only when you want to brows to the store like any other web page.

From my point of view, this update appears to be regional. Different countries might get different versions.

Since this morning, I've been running an exchange with someone from Sony of Canada.

I told him what was wrong with my copy of CONNECT and he said he would run it by the technical staff.

This afternoon he forwarded me an email from one of the tech guys who says that the version I have is the latest version available for Canada and he has no idea where I got the number for the other version (the one listed on this thread).

Hence the reason why it seems that CONNECT won't update: CONNECT for Canada won't recognize updates for CONNECT for Elsewhere.

My other concerns were not addressed however. The tech guy says that his version of CONNECT worked fine and showed no troubles like mine.

On a related note, after trying the "Update" button a few times, CONNECT did start to update. Once the update was found, I was ordered by CONNECT to close all CONNECT software before proceeding with the installation procedures. Closing CONNECT also closed the update installation however, and I haven't been able to start it again.
