Europeans: Boost the Volume of the NW-A3000/1000

Rate this question

Christopher

Question

Just like the NW-HD# hacks to defeat the European output limitation, there is a service mode trick that will do the same for the NW-A3000 and NW-A1000 as well. No word yet on the NW-A608, but it will most likely not be able to be changed.

Thank you very much to nw_lover for the tip.

You must first enter test mode, as instructed (ignore step three for now):

Proceed to alter the setting accordingly:

ALC1.jpg

Turn the unit off afterwards via the directions in step 3.

Question: does SP (sound pressure limit) draw more power (shorten the battery life) when it is off/unlimited compared to when it is on, even if you're playing at the same volume?

We haven`t done any research work on this topic & Also there is no Direct evidence that when Sp is off more battery power is drawn .But if you listen to the Higher volume then it is diffenately going to eat more battery .

First post here, so please be gentle with me!! lol

Just bought a Sony NW-A3000, I have had a go at the volume hack, but I was not sure if I should of set it to ON or OFF! Daft question, but I cannot seem to notice any great difference in volume!

So, what should I of set it to?

Any news on a major overhaul of the Connect software?

Sh33p you are right .The first page doesn`t CLEARLY telL whether to set SP setting to off or on .It say SP OFF/ON..

So if Admins or Mods reading this post. please edit the first post of this topic & Clearly write "Set SP(Sound Pressure to "OFF"

mrbdamien, AVLS is a different volume limiter. Even with AVLS off, some of us found the maximum volume (30) too quiet with certain tracks or certain headphones (larger 'phones are harder to drive).

The volume hack (SP Set) allows you to further boost the maximum volume.

So, even with the hack successfully input, the volume still goes up to 30...yes?

Yes the Vol will still go up to 30 but it will be more louder with Sp off then sp on at vol 30 .

This simply is not working for me. I'm not stupid, and very carefully, with various different attempts in various different speeds - But nothing is happening. I cannot get to this menu.

Here's what I'm doing -

- Turning on the NW A3000

- Pressing hold to set hold on

- Holding down the LINK button (the artist link thing on the left hand side I presume), and while that's pressed down, pressing

- UP, DOWN, OPTION, UP, DOWN, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, LEFT, PLAY/PAUSE, OPTION

- Then releasing artist link button

- Pressing hold to get it out of hold mode

NO MENU. WHAT THE FUCK. Could someone help me out? What am I doing wrong?

Majog,

Welcome to "AtracLife"

I`m not sure what is going wrong with you.

Are you pressing back button in the last for 1.5sec or more & I will suggest you to read the first page of post more carefully(Each & every line)

This is so frustrating. Yep I'm very very carefully followed the intructions, and bare in mind I've used plenty of nintendo and sega cheats in the past. It just isn't working.

And the back button thing, isnt that to do with going back to the regular menu once you're in the test menu? My problem is...I can't get in. The fucking thing just stares at me going "what exactly do you expect me to do?". I take it off hold, it's completely normal. Anyone had this problem. Or can anyone elaborate on what EXACTLY to do, but to be honest I don't think this is me being stupid, but the player.

Don't know what's going on with your player, but after the above steps you're supposed to see the word 'POWER' on the display and using the Up/Down keys you should be able to access the 'OTHERS' menu.

It seems that your player cannot enter in the test mode at all. Weird.

Uhh it was like 1.1, but then got the upgrade patch thing to see if that was the problem. Still the same.

Meh, I may just have to live with putting the EQ on full blast.

as long as you have at least version 1.0 it should go into the testmode.

try it again tomorrow with a fresh mind and/or ask an other person to try it for you.

sometimes if you try to solve a problem you due the same mistake again and again.

good luck :clover:

Like a few posters I cannot get my NW into Test Mode - so I can't get to the SP setting. I'm wondering if using Sonicstage instead of Connect Player could be the reason. I say that because the Link funciton is disabled when you download to an NW series from Sonicstage, and pushing the Link button is one of the keystrokes needed to access Test Mode.

Stuge,

Ive got a NW-A3000, and i have followed all the right instructions but it won't take me to the test mode,

my friend has a NW-A1000 and i done it on hers and it worked. I can't understand why it won't work on mine.

After ive done the first 3 steps and take it off hold, it just goes back to the play menu again.

Is there anything i can do?

I`m new round here. A question :

Does the NWA3000 need to be connected to my pc when doing this hack ?

If i get it wrong, will it cause irrepairable damage - ie anything that isn`t fixed by turning off and on again, or restoring factory settings ?

Thanks,

Dave

Just quickie...

does anyone know if this volume hack is REALLY bad for battery life.

i got my a3000 a few weeks ago, and one of the first thigns i did was to do this volume hack, because i likew thigns fairly loud :)

however i wasn't gettign good battery life, although i did admittedly have vbr mp3's 192-320kbps....p-retty extreme i know.

so i thought, what the hell, itll take a while, but it mgiht be worth it.......i converted ALL my cd's to atrac3plus 64kbps direct from the cd.

they actually sound not too bad quality wise, and i can now fit ALL my mus on instead of the half that i could fit wiht ym mp3's....and theres the bonus of GAPLESS playback :)

however, i was under the impression that i should be getting around 30 horus playback from this badboy....

even at 64kbps atrac3plus....i can be getting no mroe than about 15 hours TOPS.

i use it every day walkign to work....which is 5 days a week, for about 20 minutes each time....then i use it at lunchtimes for about 30 minutes a day then walkign home another 20 mins......

so thats about an hour or jsut over each day....and im having to charge it EVERY week.

each STEP of the battery life seems to last only a couple of hours or so....

could it be the volune hack causing this?

i usually listen at volkune 20 (with teh hack) and NO EQ!!!!

-x-x-x-

If you listen at higher volume than it is obvious that battery life will be somewhat low ..

Also I found that you are listening at vol20 which is quite high ..

okay, so thats understandable....higher volume means lower battery life....but i mean, 10 to 15 hhours with low bitrates like 64kbps....and using the supposedly more battery efficiet ATRAC3plus format?

it just seems a lil flimsy considering its supposed to be above 30 hours, and im not gettign half of that.

First of all forget about getting a battery life of 30hours or plus ..Thats only when player is played on stable position & At Artac 3plus 48kpbs .(Acc to JEITA)..

Also more you fiddle with player (when it is playing a song) more battery is consumed .
