kmataruse
I am in the process of boxing up my NH900, which I've had for under 3 months due to various problems. Wondering if anyone else on the list has experienced this degree of "pain". One other person I know has had to return his new HiMD, got a refurbished, and has similar problems with THAT one too! So there are 3 HiMD recorders that I know about.1) I wrote about this shortly after getting my NH900 and rec'd very little response other than I must not be recording. I also own a R70 and have used that one for 4+ years so I'm not a complete novice when it comes to this media. The problem was that I would record a two hour band practice (on a new standard MD), pause occasionally to create a track mark, and somewhere near the end of the 2 hours, the player would stop and erase the contents of my disc. The record icon had been displaying every time i went over to the MD, and I know it was in record mode. This happened perhaps 3-4 times over the past few months...with different discs every time.2) that combo stop/pause button on the 900 is a joke and a half. When I press stop, sometimes it takes 5 times of pressing it to actually get it to stop.3) the latest problem however, makes the unit unusable. I insert a disc (I've tried many different discs, both used and new, and the unit drive starts making a searching noise and won't stop the noise, or read the disc.So...I called Sony and was told that my choices are to have the player repaired, or receive a refurbished unit, not a new replacement but a refurbished. If I choose to have it repaired and they cannot fix it, still my only option is refurbished. How do they get away with this bad support policy? My friend had problems 2 and 3 with his first HiMD unit, and repair told him they couldn't repair so they sent a refurb of an older HiMD model-they don't even give you the same model. Now he's having the same problems with THAT one!in frustration....Kim
lyceemoliere
My problems were not as global but my experience with Sony help was abysmal and infuriating. I even wrote to Sir H Stringer at one point and his assistant called me and was most unhelpful and rude to boot. I was even angrier to discover that she had had me call her on a paid line so I PAID the phone billl and got no help at all in return.I am in the process of boxing up my NH900, which I've had for under 3 months due to various problems. tommypeters
It also depends on the laws in the country what standards a manufacturer has to follow. They often try to bully you, but if you know the consumer laws you may have the rights on your side. Otherwise, try to lead it into a situation interesting for the papers or consumer programs on TV and you may suddenly have a barand new players, some extra blanks, and an excuse... sebastianbf
My old mznh900 had problems. So i exchange it. They sent me a refurbished one, but I cannot tell the diference between a refurbished unit and a brand new one. The accesories were all new in plasic bags. The mznh900 was perfect, problem fixed and not a single little scratch.
Prof.OND
I'm happy to tell that i can't confirm having problems with the NH900, mine, a european version, does not have the problems listed above.

She was totally unhelpful and I was rooked for the phone call to boot.
