andysnap
Can anyone tell me what the clamp filters on all cables to my NH900 are for?In particular, the filter attached to the remote - I find the filter, although small, to be annoyingly space consuming in the CaseLogic and LowePro cases I use.I never got round to fitting the supplied clamp filter onto the remote cable of my old MZ710, with no apparent ill effects, and would like to remove the same filter on my NH900.thanksAndrew
KJ_Palmer
They're supposed to be for eliminating/reducing all the background electromagnetic (EM) radiation we're bombarded with these days, be it from PCs, mobile phones, evil 'ipods' and so on... It wouldn't do to get too much background humming or whatever on your recordings...Having said that, I've removed all the clamp filters where possible (but left some on things like the adapters) and havent noticed anything untoward... yet...On some units, the filters are somewhat annoyingly welded on though... Off with the clamps!! . . . . on the remote lead anyway, just gets in the way.Seems reasonable to leave 'em on the USB lead, even if the cord which came with my NH900 has no less than three clamp filters on it!Andrew
ROMBUSTERS
Sony's motto must be 'better safe then sorry' then again that's probably the reason we get crappy default batteries with our units (can't spend money everywhere i guess)
tommypeters
These cables are decent radio antennas, so if you are close to a radio station you could need the clamps on. They could also be useful riding an electrical-powered tram...
