very cool forum! i havent used my md for about 2 years but recently ive been getting back into it. ive mostly been a lurker here but im finally going to post.

i have a couple questions do any of you have the sony mz-ne410 (net md)?

if so... is it possible to burn someone a copy of the software and still have it work the same (with no side effects)

also if i have the mz-ne410 and someone has a newer net md but doesnt have the software will the older software work with the newer hardware (net md)?

and vica versa..will the old hardware work with the newer software?

thanks if you reply,

Joey

welcome to the active/posting members-club joeyniji,

a quick answer... theoretically all netMD's should work well with SS3.2 (the newest Sonicstage version) so it could be worth downloading that (from the downloads section here on MDCF)... but as you have lurked around here a bit, I guess you have seen the many SS problems, so make sure you back up all the necessary (also your music library through the Sony-way as a normal backup might not work!) before installing SS3.2 (not 'necessary' of course, but we wouldn't want to see your second post in a "I-upgraded-as-you-told-me-to-and-now-I-can't-listen-to-my-music-anymore"-thread tongue.gif )

have fun MD'ing and feel free to post more...

Hello Low Volta,

Thanks for your prompt reply!!!

but as is almost always the case, with the answer comes more questions. i guess i havnt lurked here in quite a long time as my md stuff has been in storage. so can you indulge me on the SS problems but more importantly what precautions i should take if i download SS?

thanks,

Joey

no probs, we're all here to help

so can you indulge me on the SS problems

most problems have been with the installation of SS itself, not installing properly the first (ten) time(s)... but, you won't know if it works for you unless you try it I'm afraid (I personally have upgraded from SS2.0->3.2 with every step inbetween and never suffered any problem at all)... if you want to be sure, just read and follow the instructions from this thread

... and a couple of quick reminders... do a clean install if you can (see the thread above), make sure you do not have FFDshow (run a search for it if you do know what it is) installed and also some other codec packs (kazaa lite and others), you could always install the Sony personal audio drivers (see downloads) before you install SS3.2 (shouldn't be necessary though), make sure your PC meets the installation requirements,...

but more importantly what precautions i should take if i download SS?

well, as far as HDD-backups are concerned, I haven't actually heard about SS-install ever ruining anything else than the music library, but actually you should backup all vital stuff before installing anything as accidents can always happen...

as far as the music library is concerned that is more difficult to answer... I'll need some more info: what program are you using at the moment? have you got an extensive music library? do you want to keep it or don't you mind reripping all CD's in there?

the Sony music format (omg/oma or in more understandable terms atrac) is copy protected, so if you simply backup the library, SS perhaps will not recognize them as they came from 'another' PC/program so if you want to keep them, you should run somesort of Sony music backup tool (like the SS backup tool in the SS folder)... so just check what you're using now and if it has some sort of backup function (perhaps separate in the same folder as the program) and more importantly... whether you want to keep the library (as things get much simpler if you don't really care about losing it tongue.gif )

also he's had some parts removed so he can interface with his computer in a more 'fundamental' level. he actually answers your posts before you've written them.

I knew you were going to write that adrian blink.gif
