Kevin J Posted August 6, 2005 Report Share Posted August 6, 2005 Hi All,This is my first post here...great forum, btw!My question has to do with what you do if you've already transferred a lot of recordings to "My Library" in Sonicstage, and then you buy a new PC and want to move all of those old recordings to your new PC.When I transfer a recording to "My Library" and then look at the file properties of the transferred file in the "Hi-MD" window on the right, under "Rights info" it states, "Can be transferred to the original computer".I've installed SS ver 3.2 and am using SS to upload recordings of gigs, rehearsals, etc. recorded on my Sony MZ-RH910. I'm considering getting a new PC in maybe 6 months to a year, and I'd like to be able to migrate any recordings uploaded into SS in my old PC to "My Library" in SS on a new PC.I know I could just convert all the old files to WAVs, dump them to CDs, and then re-import them (as WAVs ) into the new PC, but I'm wondering isn't there a better way to do this?Thx for any insight you can share.~ peace, Kevin J Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

atrain Posted August 7, 2005 Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 if the tunes are imported in 3.1 or lower please use the included sonicstage backup tool. if they are from 3.2 & have no drm just copy them over via dvd/network/whatever. In reading up on the backup tool in SS Help (FAQ - About SonicStage Backup Tool) I noticed the following:"Q: Is it possible to take the backed up music data from SonicStage on one computer and add this data to the database of SonicStage on another computer?A: No. If you attempt to restore data from one SonicStage program to a different SonicStage program on another computer, the second computer's SonicStage program will lose all of its OpenMG contents."I guess this would be no problem if I'm restoring my backup to a new PC with no existing SS files in the new PC's My Library.What if I simply transferred all the old files in My Library back onto minidiscs, deleting them from the old PC in the process, and then uploaded them onto the new PC? Keith Posted August 8, 2005 Report Share Posted August 8, 2005 I'm not sure that transferring back to your MD would work. I think you will have drm problems (although I'm not sure). Transferring libraries has definitely been done - See this thread.An alternative might be to convert your own recordings to wav then archive either as audio cd or in a lossless format like FLAC.
