Transferred Mp3s Dont Sound The Way They Did

I've had this Minidisc with 1 Gig of space for many month, Im thinking its nearing a year.....

But anyways.

I have music on CD's which I have purchased, and I ripped them onto my computer in Mp3. Then I transfer them to my MD using " Sonic Stage 2.0.06.16140 "

It worked great. I ripped them so I could listen to them in large playlists. Then transferred to MD from my computer because I wouldn't have to rename every title and artist like with MD Simple Burner.

But since then about 2-3 months ago, I got some new CDs. So I wanted to transfer it over. But I deleted everything so it would be in alphabetical order without effort.

Then I transferred it. And suddenly, every single one has this bubbly background noise whic obviously ruins the song, so I don't want it.

I want to know why this is? Oh, and some others just freeze my computer too. I've tried many things: Transferring as other files(ogg, wma, wav) dont work. Not compressing them makes no difference. I've reinstalled Sonic Stage. Nada!

I've heard a few things in other threads on this forum(which I found in a metacrawler search) such as getting rid of divx and everything to do with it. Updating nvidea to 56.72(which im currently using) all to no avail

Please help me, I just want to be able to transfer large ammounts of music(in one shot so i can walk away) without renaming every file, and make use of my 3 1 gig discs. (P.S.- I bought 2 new discs, both do the same. And my friend bought a new MD, the same one.... Same problem on my computer)

Audio compression works by removing whole chunks of audio from the frequency spectrum (e.g. things *supposedly* you don't notice anyway). Lossy compression will *always* do damage to the original audio. So, naturally, it is a bad idea to recompress already existing material, unless the recompression is not done at a reasonably higher bitrate (i.e. 128kbit recompress to 160, or 192 even).

Also I'm experiencing noticeble artifacts with m4a > atrac3. Might be the way math works in the software..

In your case some recompression might be taking place, and it would most likely be the source of your bubbling noise. I have noticed that SonicStage would apply recompression at will, unless instructed not to do so.

Things that will help:

1. Upgrade to latest version of Sonicstage.

2. Fiddle with the options to make sure:

- all you transfer is reasonably high bitrate. Be generous with bitrates.

- ideally no recompression occurs (i.e. transfer as is when possible)

3. Redo your library again.

Something I do:

Keep my tracks outside Sonicstage, in v.good quality, and manually recompress to a sony bitrate on transfer.

ok, well it wont let me install any better version of sonicstage, it just terminates without reason. Just says "has been terminated"

I tried registering, nothing. I installed SP2, which was a pain in the neck, nothing.

now, i uninstalled sonicstage, and reinstalled.... now thats f-ed up, and i had to manually delete everything..... I'm gonna try just installing simple MD... but this is just getting rediculous

Im just about ready to lose it.... I really dont wanna have to reformat just for this, but this music is important to me, since i work about 80 hours a week and rely on music to maintain my sanity.....
