i can't download it. It keeps telling me I can't make a connection with the internet. That's crap. I *have* an internet connection.

I've had it with Sony.

So long.

I tried that. It doesn't work. It tells me I don't have an internet connection.

It's too late. I've fooled around with this SS software for six months. I can't believe anyone uses it.

What tells you that you don't have an internet connection? This is our full installer, it doesn't check for a net connection.

well, at the moment, it's downloading files from the server, so it must be doing something with the internet.

listen, I debug software for a living. I'm a bit inarticulate tonight because I don't like spending my days off wrestling with ... buggy software. It's downloading now. I will see if it installs and looks anything like the previous version.

Will I be able to make Atrac3 disks with this, should it ever install correctly.

I installed 3.1 and immediately had problems with it. It would convert a few files and then just hang up. I managed to make one disk with 3 tracks on it, just to see if it would work at all.

I thought I installed 3.2 and it didn't look or act anything like 2.3 or 3.1 I couldn't even figure out how to make a disk with it.

I'm running Win2K with every Windows update on it.

i just reinstalled it. same problem as with 3.1: it converts a few tracks to Atrac3 and then dies.

Don't bother trying to help. I've wasted enough time on this.

What error do you recieve?

i get no error message. I set it up to create an Atrac3 disk and walked away. 20 minutes later, it's still trying to convert the same track and telling me it has 3 hours and 43 minutes left before the job is done. That's a little long, I think.

This is just bad software. At least with 2.3, I was able to make some disks. With this version, if I don't mind about 3 tracks on a whole disk, I guess it's okay, but put away the fishing gear because that bait isn't going to catch many.

My next job is to uninstall Sonic Stage and find a different application.

there seems to be no pattern. I *did* get a disc with about 90 songs burned as an Atrac3 but it took more than an hour. Can that be right?

I started over today: fresh software install, fresh files. Set everything up to create an ATRAC CD. Set it in motion and left it for FIVE HOURS. When I came back, it was stuck on the 16th of 109 tracks on a CD.

Tried another. Re-imported all the tracks straight from the CDs again. This time it made it to the third track and stopped.

This is ridiculous. I know it's freeware and nobody made me install it, but one would think a company as big as Sony could do a little better. Obviously, some people have success -- I even had success with two short CDs -- but what's the point of making software that is supposed to let a user put many tracks on a CD if it hangs up and freezes just a few minutes into the process ALMOST EVERY TIME!

Can anyone recommend a good MP3 converter?

I'll certainly agree that SonicStage is not the most intuitive or fastest application I've ever used. That said I've only used 3.2 myself and have not had any problems with it. But from I've read either it works fine or it drives you insane. I suspect it has a conflict with something else.

But I'm a bit bit puzzled as to why you want to create a ATRAC CD? Is it for a Discman that only plays ATRAC? AFAIK SS is the the only app out there that can create ATRAC files.

As an alternative I suggest using something else to rip the CD to WAV. I use AudioGrabber and the LAME.DLL to rip CD's myself. Then import the WAVs back into SS.

Alternatively, these links might be useful.

It sounds as though you may have made my fatal error. 3.2 now works flawlessly for me.
