Sigh my 1 month old MZ-RH910 all of a sudden started having "no disc" errors. Tried different discs, charging the battery, AA battery with no luck. I was loving my new mindisc till this happened :o Very embarrassing in front of my ipod toting friends! Does anyone know if there are any "technical issues" with these new hi-md models?

Just packed it up and sent it to the Sony Service Center in Laredo, TX. The email they sent me in the initial return process indicated that my model was on an exchange program but that my model was not available?? Any idea what models they might try to sub it with?

thanks -altpc

try the mzrh10, mznh900 or mznh1.

Thanks for the info. Let me see what choices they give me once they receive it. Hopefully it will be later this week. I really miss it but am still disappointed that it died.

btw: does anyone have any additional info that software may have caused this? The problem first happened when I plugged it into my computer and then turned the computer on. It had been working flawlessly the night before. I'm just thinking that if software caused it then some kind of hardware reset might have fixed it.

I bought an MZ-RH910 and had the same problem almost immediately -- it died with the "no disc" error. The day it arrived, I made a series of recordings successfully using a mic, and played them back. No problem. Then later I put in a new disc and went out to a friend's concert, and recorded some of it as another test, again with microphones (Core Sound binaurals). After pressing stop, it got stuck in "data save" mode for several minutes, and thereafter I got the "no disc" error, no matter what disc I put in (including the one I had recorded on successfully earlier).

The only thing I can think of that may have caused this problem -- not that it should have! -- was that I unplugged the mics during the "data save" process. Since you say that your error happened when you turned your computer on, this supports my hypothesis that the unit is somehow sensitive to changes in electrical levels or something like that -- in my case with the battery-powered mics, in your case with the USB power. Just a hypothesis; I'm far from an expert in these things.

I returned mine for a new unit, and my new unit is working fine. But now I'm making sure not to unplug the mics until after the data is all saved!

what kind of software ? do you mean SonicStage?

I wasn't really thinking of any software in particular. I just thought I saw something to that effect somewhere in these forums. I'm just asking to see if anyone had any new news about that possiblity. thanks -alt

I can't really say for sure that powering up my computer had anything to do with it ... could have just been coincidence. Just wondering what everyone else is experiencing.

It does seem to be a good idea not to unplug the mics during a "data save". Maybe unplugging the mic jarred the recorder while saving and somehow caused a permanent problem?

Hey I just got an email from Sony Service saying that they received my unit and that they sent out a replacement!! Not sure what they sent out though, maybe they got some new refurbs in of my model? Should find out what they sent me on Monday. At least the turnaround time isn't too bad!

Hey All, just reporting back that I just received a refurbed rh910. Guess they had them after all! All seems well so far. The door on this one opens up alot smoother. The last one seemed to bind half open a bit. My plugs seem to fit a bit looser in the internal mic, line and headphone jacks tho'. Hope this one holds up better than the last. Best wishes all, thanks for the help -altpc
