Why cant i record @ 48kbps

after hearing that its only use is for speach- i thought i would try to record my uni lectures.

It's only available through SonicStage. Realtime recording only in 64kbps Hi-LP, 256kbps Hi-SP or 1411kbps PCM. If you need to fit more than 8 hours on one disc, use Hi-LP, otherwise opt for better quality Hi-SP.

Yup, you just cannot record at 48 kbps unless using SonicStage. I really recommend Hi-LP for recording when you don't need really good quality. Hi-SP sounds really proffessional. I have recorded 2 shows already in Hi-SP and the quality is amazing..

You can record your lectures in HiLP and then upload them to SonicStage. In SonicStage (3.2) you can convert your recordings to 48kbps bitrate and then transfer the files to your HiMD.

The only reason for 48kbps was to cram more onto an old-fashioned minidisc. It was barely passable quality. Now that you can use Hi-LP and put 10 hours 10 minutes on one 80-minute mindisc, it hardly seems worth it to lose any more audio quality, even for speech.
