How to Check-in Music Titled in Chinese?

hi

i own a mz-rh10. when i bought it, the seller told me that the unit was able to display chinese.

but i found that ss (v3.2 i am using) cannot transfer musical files named in chinese. and tags in chinese cannot be displayed on rh10.

i would like to know how can i make it support to chinese?

If you have an Asian RH10 you definitely won't have any problems. Even if you don't - try it anyway and let us know how you get on.

i read some post, it said that i should also change settings on my md, but i cannot find the 'group' key on my rh10

I'm pretty sure there isn't a "group" button on the RH10. Is the post you found referring to the RH10?

Please be careful if you plan on entering service mode to change any settings, many users have rendered their units inoperable by changing settings in service mode. Plus, doing so voids the warranty for the unit.

Where exactly did you get your unit from? What are your language settings for the menus on the unit? If you look at page 61 in the manual it says Traditional Chinese is only available on certain models.

What languages are available for the menus? Hold down the menu button and go to Options => Language - If you only have Japanese and English as language options then it may be that the unit will only display Kanji that exist in Japanese as well.

Having said that others on the forum have not had any problems - when you run SS using Applocale do you choose chinese or Japanese? Try running it as Japanese, but leaving the area code in the registry to 80000.

Run SS through Applocale using Chinese Traditional then import the CD. What does it display as? If it still doesn't work try running Applocale using Japanese, then import a CD. How do the titles appear? If they are still not diaplying refresh the Cd info manually using the CD info button to connect to the CDDB. If your registry area code was changed as you say to 80000 it should connect to the Chinese CDDB to download the titles.

the problem has been tackled. i use apploacte to run ss in simplified chinese mode and it works properly!

may i ask one more question? how can i add tag (artist, album, name of song) to wav file?

I don't think it can as it was never released in Asia as far as I know.

Sorry if this is already answered, it just wasn't clear to me

I got an Japaness model of rh10 and when I get into the language setting, it only has two options: Japanese and English. Does this mean I can not display Simplified Chinese text on my MD unit?

I followed the above mentioned instruction to set the Win registry to 80000 (Chinese) and also ran SonicStage through AppLocale using Simplified Chinese, everything works fine inside SonicStage and I can see correct Chinese text in both My Library box and Hi-MD box inside SS. But when I disconnect the MD unit from PC and start playing the songs, the text shown on the unit becomes garbage (something like "·çÓêÎÞ×è", similar with if you view a Simplified Chinese webpage in IE using Western European encoding). I guess this is because my MD unit just don't support Simplified Chinese fonts, right? If yes, then I won't bother try various settings anymore.

Is there anyway to use the AppLocale in Win2000, so that I don't have to borrow others computer for transfering music?

Also, ...it may sound impossible, but is there anyway (like firmware update, etc.) to add Simplified Chinese font to an MD unit? Thanks a lot!

But I am still not able to see Chinese titles on rh10 unit for tracks uploaded from SS3.2, although the titles show up fine in SS3.2 as Chinese text (on both sides in the transfer screen, as you can see above).

Here is my environment details:

Windows 2000 SP4

Installed SonicStage 3.2 using MDCF full installer, applied all registry changes with 'AreaCode' set to 80000 (Chinese).

System Locale: Chinese (PRC)

Current User Locale: Chinese (PRC)

Language Settings for the system: Simplified Chinese (default), Traditional Chinese, Western Europe and United States

Input Locales: Chinese (PRC) (default), English (United States)

After some searching, there doesn't seem to be a 'AppLocale' for Windows 2000, and I don't have an XP machine. Appreciate any help on this!

Unfortunately, Microsoft AppLocale will only work with WinXP; and to make matters worse, SonicStage 3.x does not support unicode - that is why Microsoft AppLocale is important. Therefore, merely changing your Windows 2000's "Non-unicode program/locale setting" is not enough. You will need to have AppLocale once you installed SonicStage 3.x.

That's too bad So I have to get an XP machine if I want titles in Chinese on my unit.

Hi everyone, I tried it on an XP machine, but still no luck

Here are the details of the machine:

- Japanese model RH10, applied the trick to enable Japanese/Chinese menus

- Windows XP, SP2

- Installed AppLocale from Microsoft

- Installed SonicStage 3.2 from internet (the version with Connect store)

- Region and Language Options:

....* Standards and Formats: English (United States)

....* Location: United States

....* Install files for East Asian languages: Checked

....* Default input language: English (United States) - US

....* Language for non-Unicode programs: English (United States)

....* Installed services:

........> Chinese (PRC) / Keyboard / Chinese (Simplified) - Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0

........> English (United States) / Keyboard / US [default]

........> Japanese / Keyboard / Japanese Input System (MS-IME2002)

Here is what I did:

- Change Windows registry according to faq with AreaCode 80000 (Chinese)

- Start SS with AppLocale using Simplified Chinese language

- Title a song in "My Library" in Simplified Chinese (e.g., "风雨无阻")

- Transfer the song to RH10 unit

- Disconnect the unit and browse the song list on the unit

- The song title is shown in garbage。 （e.g., "·çÓêÎÞ×è")

I did the similar thing for Traditional Chinese, but it didn't work either. However, the same method works for Japnese language. Here is what I did:

- Change Windows registry according to faq with AreaCode 40000 (Japanese)

- Start SS with AppLocale using Japanese language

- import an mp3 file

- Copy a string from http://www.sony.co.jp/ (e.g., "ソニー（株）情報", since I don't know how to input Japanese ) and paste it into SS as the song title

- Transfer the song to RH10 unit

- Disconnect and browse the song list on the unit

- The titles are shown exactly as they were show in SS 3.2 (e.g., "ソニー（株）情報")

Does the Japanese model of RH10 have built in fonts for Simplified Chinese, or do I always have to use Japanese Kanji font to mimic the Chinese fonts? That sounds like a lot of pain Anyone know where on the web I can buy a Chinese model RH10?

I finally found out what was wrong! It was the AreaCode that I used when editting the registry. The correct value is 800000 (with FIVE zeros at the end), while I used 80000 (four zeros) value instead. Everything else remain the same, and things start working like a charm!

To make it simple for others in the future, I outline the steps here:

0. When I say "Chinese", I mean the Chinese characters in GB2312 or Big5 encodings. They are different from Kanji characters that use Shift-JIS encoding. (Skip this if you don't know what I am saying )

1. Make sure your RH10 unit can display Chinese menus. You may try the service mode trick if it doesn't.

2. Install SS3.3 on your PC (I used US version from connect.com, I GUESS other versions should work as well but didn't verify)

3. Follow Ishiyoshi's instruction to change the Windows registry, but use 800000 as the AreaCode value for Chinese (This works for both Simplified and Traditional Chinese).

4. If you have an WinXP machine, use AppLocale to invoke SS3.3 using Simplified or Traditional Chinese language. If you are using Win2K machine, change the system language settings to Simplified (or Traditional, but I didn't verify) Chinese like I did in post#12 in this thread and then invoke SS3.3 as usual.

You should be able to see/edit titles in Chinese inside SS3.3, as well as see the Chinese titles on RH10 unit after transfer the songs. It really shouldn't be this complicated; shame on Sony for making such a crappy software!

I also wanted to see Chinese titles on my MC35ELK remote, but after some Google searching, it seems no at all possible because MC35ELK model does not have built-in Chinese fonts (that's right, the remote has to build in all fonts that it can show). I will need either MC40ELK, or MC55ELK for that.
