The power adapter for the AC plug for my MD doesn't seem to work...so the only way to charge my unit is using the USB cord...will this effect the life of the battery? or should I go look for another power adapter? The battery doesn't seem to be lasting too long...and I wonder if I would be getting more life out of it if I was chargfing it using the AC plug.

Cheers

The USB only provides a supplemental charge to power the unit during transfer, not enough power to fully charge the battery from what I understand (although it may charge it slightly). A new AC adapter would be your best bet, along with fully discharging the battery from time to time before charging.

What type of battery is it by the way? 10wm or 14wm (assuming its a NiMH)?

I think it depends on what model you have. The new 2nd gen HI-MD players actually charge when attached to the USB port. The 1st gen plyars do what yo describe above.

There was another post a while ago about the 2nd Gen one and battery conditioning and the effects of recharging via USB.

According to my RH10 manual, under "What you can do through a connection with a computer":

Charging the rechargeable battery of the recorder

You can charge the rechargeable battery while the recorder is connected to a computer (using USB bus power). When you connect the recorder to a computer, power (bus power) from the computer begins to charge the recorder's rechargeable battery. However, this charge is only provisional and cannot be used to fully charge the rechargeable battery. For example, if you charge a completely drained rechargeable battery in this way, the recorder will stop charging after about 6 hours, and will reach about half of its full capacity. The charging time may vary according to the condition of the rechargeable battery and the surrounding temperature.

So they do charge, but not fully.

RH10 - It got it from overseas...so the plug that came with it needs one of those fittings to work in our sockets! ..new zealand

So..I am gonna have to buy a new one?

assuming you've got a 100~240v charger you'll nly need something like this

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photo...on-35253965.htm

from a camping or travel store shouldn't be more than nz$10 - if you've got a US RH10 then you'll need a us-to-nz obviously.
