Driver Problems

Can anyone help?

I have just bought a Sony MZ-NH1 HI-MD player, I have installed the Software Sonic Stage 3.2 using Sonys webinstaller and this installed fine no problems. But when I try to connect the MD player to the laptop it goes through the process of installing the driver but at the end I get an error message and the driver doesn't install.

Error Message:

Cannot Install This Hardware

There was a problem installing this hardware:

HI-MD

An error occured during the installation of the device

A service installation section in this INF is invalid

Has anyone seen this before or know of away to fix it?

Can you please try the following:

• Unplug your unit from the computer.

• Install the driver located at this page

• Reboot your machine
• Plug your unit back in and let it detect the device

I downloaded the driver installed and rebooted but when I connect the device it still gives the same error message after installing.

Welcome. Reinstall via the directions in the FAQ.

Does the HiMD appear in your Device Manager at all? Possibly with some sort of exclamation point or question mark?

If so, you may want to try uninstalling the unit through the device manager before installing the PA Driver.

Also be sure that the unit is disconnected when you install the drivers.

Oddly enough it sounds like it's trying to install drivers that weren't designed/tested for XP... Is that possible?

Yeah it appears in the Device Manager when connected but with the yellow exclamation mark.

Have tried this and everytime when you connect again it installs the drivers and comes up with the same error message.

Yeah have been doing this as well.

Yes I agree with you, the drivers aren't digitally signed but that should not make a difference. I used to have an older MD player which I used with earlier versions of sonic stage but I uninstalled all the software as per the instructions on this forum before installing the latest version of Sonic Stage. I think there is still something conflicting .... maybe rements of the older driver, but I can't test on another machine as the monitor for my desktop isn't working else I would install and test on there.

How often do you use Windows Update?

EDIT - I'm not sure how different it would be, but have you tried downloading the PA Driver (Zip File) from the Downloads section here in the forums and using that instead of the one at the previous link?

All the time, its set to automatically download and install updates.

Unfortunately I have already tried that and it does't work.

It may be worth searching your system for the driver files themselves. It is possible that uninstalling the drivers doesn't actually delete all of the files, and reinstalling them may not actually overwrite all of them correctly.

If you search for and find the driver files themselves that are installed, keep a list of the correct file names, and maybe try adding .bak to the files after their extensions and reinstalling the drivers after doing so.

( example... file.sys would rename to file.sys.bak

file.inf would rename to file.inf.bak )

I would only recommend trying this if you are comfortable with renaming system files, etc... Since doing so can possibly harm your system and files if you are not sure what you are doing.

Sol - Is the disc in your recorder a Hi-MD Disc? You might also try plugging in the unit with a non-HiMD disc inserted and see if it picks up the NetMD drivers at all.
