Enviromentally Conscious Products and Services

One factor that is becoming important in customer's selection of products is knowing if a product is environment conscious. Sony cares for the environment and therefore develops products and services that are environment conscious. Sony has developed a compact silicon tuner that is as small as a postage stamp, conserving both energy and resources. Sony also uses recycled paper to make CD and DVD jackets, developing products that last for a long time. Also, the Sony Mini DV cassettes are made of recycled resin. By using recycled plastic, CRT glass, ploystyrene foam and cartons for various parts and components, Sony has achieved a recycle ratio of 16.3%.

Sony includes environmental conscious packaging in their design goal. Sony has also developed flame retardant vegetable based plastics that are derived from biomass and lead-free solder that maintains high performance.

To give customers information about environmental conscious products, Sony uses the "eco info" mark to accurately indicate the environment conscious aspect of products. The mark is placed on product catalogues, stickers, packages, users' manuals and advertising material with specific environmental information shown to the right of the mark. Environmental information using the 'eco info' mark is disclosed in most places of the world. Each product is made with consideration for the environment.

Items with ECO INFO mark

Sony group uses the 'eco info' mark and text descriptions to disclose environmental conscious features specific to the following items:

- Products and Accessories

- Packaging Materials

- Users' Guides

- Catalogues and other printed materials

flame retardent? LOL who cares about flame retardent? I mean they manufacture stuff to have high heat resistance anyway. not exactly like playing a dvd is going to make it catch fire lol. Besides, if something else causes a fire, it wont be the dvd player you worry about but your whole house..

I am all for caring about nature, but how does having flame retardent dvd players save nature>?

mercury_in_flames,

Sony is trying to suggest that they made flame -retardent plastic is Vegetable based because many Company uses chemicals like "Bromated flame retardant"(BRF) for making plastic of front panel which is very harmful to environment

BFRs have been associated with endocrine disruption and impairment of mental skills, etc. Bromated flame retardants in electronics can also make e-waste more hazardous

So here Sony is not using BFR like thing instead they are making plastic from vegetable thus environment friendly
